Grand Hotel de Valenciennes

The hotel has aged enormously and unfortunately has been inadequately maintained. In all four rooms I booked, the carpets were stained, there were lots of drill holes and open wall plugs in the walls, and our shower head was so calcified that the water jets sprayed in all directions. Only the bed and the pillow were really good for me. The employee at the front desk was also totally friendly, committed, and helpful and a real bright spot - but unfortunately could not significantly improve the overall impression. I can unfortunately only describe the breakfast as unhygienic: The cork stopper of the water bottle was moldy on the inside and the water smelled the same way. (Was reported by me and immediately removed.) The cold cuts were already dried out and the buffet was full of flies. The pancakes were also sitting uncovered on the table and were cold. If one were to invest a really large(!) amount here, one could really make something out of this building - especially due to the excellently good location directly across from the train station - but unfortunately this hotel no longer really deserves its promising name. Too bad…

The traditional double room is not at all like the photos I was able to see on booking, shower where the grout was black in places, leftover toilet paper just sitting on the flush handle, the bed was comfortable but the curtains I wanted to open in the morning were stained and I could not open the window, originally I was supposed to have a bathroom with a bathtub, passable hotel for one night but when we arrived in the evening, there was a musty smell

An absolute disappointment. Technical defects in many places. Unclean and used towels from previous users. No shower partition at the bathtub. Dirty toilet.
