Right where rue de Turenne ends is this budget hotel. It's nice and pleasant. The room was not big and neither was the bathroom, but it was enough for me. I slept well. Breakfast is simple, but costs only 11 euros. Next door is a nice bakery and you wake up to a pleasant scent of freshly baked bread. Last but not least, the staff is very nice.

A few years ago I arrived at Hotel Americain with no luggage—my suitcase had been stolen from the train in Marseille and I was left with underwear borrowed from my sister and a few toiletries. I had several days in Paris before my flight home. It was in season and this lovely hotel upgraded me from a basic single to a front double with a view of a little park. I was so moved by this gesture that I’ve gone back every year since. Last year was beastly hot (102 degrees) but this hotel had just installed AC, rare in a budget Paris hotel in my experience, and it rescued the visit. Hotel Americain has definitely been discovered and I wouldn’t be adding my rave review if not for that first visit. It’s quieter than my former favorite, the elevator is reliable, staff is courteous and kind, and a great value. Located very near Republique, in the 3rd, take the breakfast—it’s basic but only 11 euros and if you need one there’s a Starbucks around the corner.

A little hard beds but clean, stable internet and proper hot water in the shower after January-cold days along the Seine. Nice staff and good location. Exit 2 in the metro and nicest to walk along Bd Du Temple we thought.
