Hotel Saint Paul

This is a very quaint hotel in the heart of old Lyon and has huge potential to be really amazing but our experience was fairly average. On arrival the lady on reception was fairly helpful although not as welcoming as I would have imagined. We paid 300 euros to stay one night with parking so perhaps our expectations were higher than they should have been. The hotel is clean. I noticed that the lift mirror is badly cracked at a low level which could be extremely dangerous if a child touched it and no attempt to cover or warn people. The air con in the room was set to 20 degrees . And whilst we understand the environmental impact, they should not advertise aircon if you can’t regulate the room to be cool. The car park, if you have a large car please think twice . It’s accessed via a car lift and the actual parking spaces are very small. The receptionist asked how big our car was and I said it’s very large but she gave us a tiny space right in the corner. We also got stuck in the lift however the lady on reception at the college hotel did come to help and was great. The bedroom could be lovely but everything felt fairly cheap. We also booked to stay with our little dog and they put us on the 4th floor which wasn’t great when she needed the toilet in the middle of the night ! It is very lovely and as I say has potential to be really amazing. The night porter was very friendly as was the lady on reception when we departed. We just felt for the money, it would have been better than it was.

This was a lovely hotel in the heart of Old Town (Vieux Lyon) with easy access to walk across the bridge to the Presqu'ile neighborhood. Our room was large with a lot of storage, shelves, closets, high ceilings and big large windows. We had one of the family rooms that had two bathrooms, which was a big bonus. The bed was very comfortable. We ate breakfast one morning and it was tasty, with the eggs cooked to perfection for us (not overcooked). Interesting that there was a different front desk person at every shift over the 2 days, but all were nice and spoke English. The gal at check in gave us a great overview of the city with the map and recommended some nearby restaurants. They had a great water fountain/cooler in the lobby to grab a class of water or refill bottles. Only issue was a few housekeeping shortcomings...shower could be cleaned better where the floor and the wall meet and the public toilet in the lobby area was not clean. Also, should be noted that not all rooms are accessible to the elevator without the use of stairs. I would recommend to others and stay here again.

We stayed in an "Apartment" room at the Académie Hotel for two nights in August 2025. The location in Vieux Lyon is excellent, but unfortunately the overall experience fell short of expectations. - The room was marketed as an apartment, yet it lacked basic amenities such as plates, utensils, and any means to prepare food. - There was no minibar or mini-fridge. While not always standard in Europe, this stood out given that our nightly rate here was higher than at comparable hotels in London, Paris, Annecy, and Geneva, all of which included this feature. - The air conditioning was restricted to a minimum of 23°C and could not be adjusted lower, which made the room uncomfortably warm. - The bathroom light could not be switched off. No configuration of switches in the room resolved this issue, resulting in an awkwardly lit space at night. - Breakfast was disappointing. It is prepared by the front desk attendant, who was clearly overextended, and the quality reflected that. At €19 per person, the offering felt poor value—for example, the scrambled eggs were cooked in a pot and arrived broken into 100s of uneven fragments. - Luggage storage was unsecured. Bags were left in the open lobby, which was only intermittently staffed by a single employee. The property has strong potential given its location and charm, but the number of small but significant shortcomings makes it difficult to justify the price.
