Chalet Val 2400

While we were thinking of booking in a 4-star establishment with a relatively good quality/price ratio, we are still looking for 4 stars. Services : As soon as we arrive, the receptionist tells us that we benefit from a whole host of services, including access to the swimming pool of the Altitude hotel located a few meters away. Except that this is not the case, and that Val 2400 customers do not have access to the swimming pool. Included in these services is the relatively small and overheated SPA. 10€ bathrobe rental for relative cleanliness. In order to respect basic hygiene rules in the sauna, we would like to obtain additional towels... it is chargeable. One of the hostesses told us that it is not necessary to have a towel in the sauna since it is hypoallergenic. Hypoallergenic or not, hygiene should not be discussed. While waiting for the rental of bathrobes, a member of the hotel staff complained about his mission in rather flowery words ("screw the c******, I had to unclog the ch ***** put***", and then the latter called us "loustics" while addressing a hostess (what do the two loustics want). We are not "loustics", of course. On the contrary and even so, coming from the staff of a hotel that claims to be a 4 star, it can be thought but it is not said, and even less out loud. The apartment: Located on the 5th and last floor, we benefited from the calm being high up and at the back of the establishment. The apartment itself is ok. A little cramped for 8 people, especially the kitchen area. The rooms are quite decent, the bathrooms and showers are sufficient for their usefulness and the living space could have been arranged differently. Cleanliness needs to be reviewed. In the services and therefore in the price, there is logically an end-of-stay cleaning. We found a used cotton swab under a bed, a second under a basin as well as a box of soap, pieces of cardboard behind the bench located in the entrance to the apartment, numerous stains on the bed linen and the towels, and the glazing of the living room, let's not talk about it. Some plates had tomato sauce stains, and the cutlery appeared to have been put away without being washed. The dust present demonstrated a state of cleanliness which should be more demanding. Finally, the television remote control was broken (the batteries had leaked, replaced free of charge (fortunately) by a receptionist). Despite everything, the stay was not catastrophic. The hotel is very well located, opposite a supermarket, the free shuttle stop next to the SkiSet and at the foot of a slope. It has paid private parking (very very narrow). The staff is not exclusively unpleasant. We met a smiling and friendly hostess as well as an attentive and helpful caretaker. To conclude, some points which are cold, others which correspond to the price paid for accommodation and services. At this price, it is possible to find better in Val-Thorens. A few small efforts without impact on costs for the group and the client can be fully satisfied I think. We will nevertheless keep, like every year for the last 5 years, but our first time at Val 2400, a very good memory of our week in Val-Thorens.

Awful hotel. This is not 4 star, more like 2 stars at a push. Me and my partner had to push two single beds together and had one tiny pillow each. There was absolutely no space to put any of our belongings bearing in mind we were there for a whole week. The showers were so hot and cold, it was impossible to stand underneath to have a proper wash. The boot warmers were broken in the ski rooms. The only bonus was the sauna & steam room which were amazing but the rooms are in definite need of upgrading and re-designing as ours was nowhere near fit for purpose!! There was nowhere to relax after a long day of skiing and the lighting was terrible, couldn’t see a thing. The apartment overall was dark, dingy and not fit for purpose. Avoid.

It seems this hotel may be in decline… This holiday was booked as a package (flights, transfer, hotel) for 7 friends. On arrival we were told to wait 4 hours for our room to be ready by 5pm! Never have I had such a late check in… considering when you leave it is your responsibility to strip off the bed, empty bins, do the recycling, wash up dishes… what takes them so long?!?! After waiting 4 hours our room still was not clean, I had a plaster from the previous stay under my bedside table and a dirty kitchen. They only allow one pillow per person so a lot of us found sleeping very uncomfortable, and we were having to pad out pillows out with our own clothing. The communal area in our apartment was not comfortable for a group of people which is a shame as we planned to have a few games nights in, which we headed out instead… For 7 people we were only given 2 toilet rolls and when we asked for more we were made to seem like a nuisance. Upon arrival we found the staff to be rude but they did get better as the trip went on… I wouldn’t say this is exactly a ski out hotel as you do need to walk to the nearest piste. The ski in is a steep, short and often busy red so not for beginners. At night the red fox bar down stairs can be super loud so I wouldn’t even think about getting an early night, unless you can sleep through all the shouting, banging and chanting. What I will say is this hotel has stunning views from the balcony and it’s super super warm (sometimes too warm we had the doors open most of the time). Apart from that I’m just so glad the skiing in Val Thorens was just incredible!! If I were to come back to Val Thoren I’d be going to different accommodation for sure.
