I was looking for an inexpensive and cozy hotel for my weekend on the french coast back in May 2012. The Hotel Merea seemed like a suitable option despite the negative critics I had read before. I took the risk and I could only confirm that all critics were for a reason.
The entrance of the hotel is quite fashionable... unfortunately this is not the case with the rooms, all looking quite old fashioned (old TV, simple decoration, poor bathrooms, etc.). There is a strange smell at the entrance of the rooms, probably caused by the carpet.
Regarding the service, reception closes from the evening until the early morning but what disappointed me the most was the poor recommendations I got from the owner about places to visit or eat in the area, which were almost always incomplete and not accurate.
Definitely not the brightest place to stay.
And the worst thing of all is that I ended up paying more than I should have wished.
