Photos on La Mirande’s website depict richly colorful rooms and public spaces loaded with charm. But the reality we experienced bore little resemblance to these photos, leading us to wonder whether the shots had been taken decades ago or had been photoshopped.
Evidence of neglect was everywhere. Our suite (ironically the hotel’s most expensive unit) featured an upholstered chair with a broken “sink-hole” seat, badly stained furniture, and faded threadbare rugs. The room's odd odor was noticed by a staff member who was there to fix the electricity. Even in the dining rooms, wall coverings were stained and peeling in places.
In short, the hotel was so dispiriting that we spent as little time there as possible.
