Hotel Cosmos

This hotel is a bit like Contrexéville: the traces of the Belle Époque are still there, but the splendor clearly belongs to the past. The town seems sleepy today under the weight of its past grandeur. The center is almost deserted in the middle of summer; the few shops are unattractive and closed on a Monday afternoon in August! A few nice boutiques and a little activity would, however, be enough to restore charm and life to a place that seems almost ghostly. The Cosmos unfortunately gives the same impression: that of a fallen grandeur that one tries as best one can to preserve. The architecture remains, but the whole place has aged and lacks a bit of charm. The Comfort double room is relatively spacious, but very plain: no decoration, "vintage" furniture reduced to the bare minimum, walls and furniture that could use a serious refresh. No hospitality tray, no kettle, no coffee: only a small bottle of Contrexéville water, fortunately! At the front desk, they explain to us with embarrassment that the few available kettles have already all been distributed. Soundproofing between rooms is totally nonexistent: you can participate in the conversations of the neighboring room and fully enjoy the chirping, shouting, and crying of the baby... The Wi-Fi is difficult to pick up, unstable, or even nonexistent. I finally opted for a connection share. Thanks Orange! The restaurant offers rather good cuisine, but with really very measured portions: big eaters, you risk staying hungry. Even the bread, which is very good, is rationed. As for the half-board, it seems to fall into even greater simplicity, judging by the plates and comments of my table neighbors. Breakfast offers a variety of choices, but the quality is quite average: notably an industrial thawed baguette, very pale and unappetizing. Even though the dinner bread was much better. You can tell they are cutting costs to maximize the profitability of the buffet. Fortunately, there are also some positive points: very friendly, welcoming, and helpful staff who sincerely try to make the stay pleasant; spacious rooms for a moderate price; dogs are accepted with a reasonable supplement of €10; and the hotel faces a very large and very beautiful park, undoubtedly the main attraction of the city. I did not test either the pool or the spa.

We had an excellent time at this hotel-restaurant, and what a wonderful discovery! From the moment we arrived, we were won over by the atmosphere: a warm, friendly, and very pleasant place where you quickly feel right at home. We ate very well: tasty dishes, well-presented and prepared with great care. The quality is truly there, as is the welcome and the service, which are professional, friendly, and attentive all at once. It is truly the kind of place you want to return to, as much for the quality of the cuisine as for the atmosphere and the welcome. A big bravo to the whole team for this magnificent establishment and for this beautiful adventure! An address that I recommend without hesitation and that we will have great pleasure in returning to. ❤️
