Cape point

I have recently returned from an amazing solo holiday in the Gambia. I stayed at Ocean Bay Hotel, Cape Point and i was blown away by the beautiful friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel was clean and relaxing, with beautiful surroundings including mischievous monkeys and the food was delicious. As it was my first time to the Gambia, the first morning i hired a guide to escort me to change some money as i was told i might be hassled being out and about alone and it was a safer option. I went directly opposite the hotel to the Official tour guides in the orange tops. I was greeted by a smiling 'Ousman (tel +220 254 6164) and after introducing himself he became my best friend for the week. As well as escorting me and helping me with changing money, haggling in shops and showing me around the immediate area safely, he was my 'go to' for trips. These included monkey park, crocodile park and museum, vulture feeding, the slave museum, kunta kinte island, the Makasutu Forest and animal sanctuary. He sorted everything from taxis, the ferry, boats, specialised guides, food and drinks throughout the day and meeting and having lunch with a family and a school visit. Nothing was too much trouble for him and i learnt so many things about the Gambia from him. The language, the traditions, advise and helpful hints and general history on various things we came across. He always had a smile, an infectious personality and i felt completely safe with him at all times. He was thoughtful, considerate and kind. He constantly had my phone taking photos and videos while i enjoyed my time and he even carried my bag all day, everyday. Along with Ocean Bay Hotel, Ousman made my holiday unforgettable and perfect, full of beautiful memories i cherish and i shall definately return using the same hotel Ocean Bay Hotel and the same guide. Hey could have been a 5 only we were at the egg of the season and breakfast was dry bread that if you did not toast it could not be removed with a slice of cheese or a crushed sugar cube with a cup of coffee or tea on request an egg I know it is not as here but this was very meagre also evening there was not a glass of soda to get and from the menu not even half they were not allowed to buy anything.otherwise the staff is great the rooms old but clean and a lovely bed

Very nice and familiar hotel even if a little worn.Travel to Bakau since the 70s and love everything, the food, the people and the climate.
