Dorint Maison Messmer

Four nights in late July 2026, room 416 (Classic, balcony, garden view), during a spell of 30+ °C weather. First the good, and there is plenty of it. The location is as central as Baden-Baden gets: the Kurhaus is next door, Lichtentaler Allee starts around the corner, and the garden side of the house is genuinely quiet at night. The interiors are stylish and playful – the Fornasetti-style corridor murals are a highlight. Service was excellent throughout: warm, professional, never intrusive. Breakfast was equally excellent, easily at the level the house aspires to. Now the problem that matters most in summer: the air conditioning. In my room it produced a steady mechanical hum but no measurable cooling. With over 30 °C outside, the room stayed warm through the night – the worst of both worlds, noise without effect. In a five-star property at this price point, functioning climate control is not a luxury; it is the baseline. This is the single issue I would fix first. The second letdown was the Royal Spa. Visually beautiful, but underheated: the Turkish steam bath with its Klimt-like mosaics was the only properly hot facility, while the Finnish sauna and the second steam room were too cool and the pool water bit too could for my liki g. As a Finn, I know what a sauna should feel like – this is not it. The pattern is consistent: everything human about this hotel – service, breakfast, atmosphere – performs at five stars, while the technical basics – climate control, spa temperatures – do not. Until those are fixed, I would recommend Maison Messmer for spring or autumn rather than a heatwave, and with tempered expectations for the spa.

The competition for the former Dorint Hotel Maison Messmer, which can still be booked via the Dorint platform, has grown in the 5-star sector in Baden-Baden. Renovations took a long time at the Europäischer Hof (now Steigenberger) and also at Brenners Park-Hotel. We were in Baden-Baden for the festival over Easter and—despite the reopening of these hotels—we chose this establishment, also because the price-performance ratio seemed reasonable from our perspective. We were not disappointed: an impeccable room, functioning housekeeping, the breakfast left little to be desired and had very friendly, dedicated staff, and the pool and wellness area was very nice. The location right by the spa park is excellent anyway; incidentally, a (complimentary) shuttle to the concert hall was offered for festival guests. Many small details in the hotel showed that dedicated management takes care of the guest. We can recommend this establishment without reservations.
