The highlight of this hotel is undoubtedly its location. Situated in the heart of Heidelberg’s pedestrian-friendly Old Town, everything is within easy walking distance. The castle is easily reached walking a short distance and using the funicular, and the surrounding streets are filled with restaurants, cafés, shops, and attractions, including scenic boat tours along the Neckar River.
What truly makes this hotel special is its history. Built in 1592, staying here feels like stepping into a museum. The charming corridors, winding stairwells, artwork, and suits of armor throughout the property create a unique atmosphere that reflects the building’s remarkable past. It’s easy to appreciate why this is considered one of Heidelberg’s most iconic historic buildings.
Our room was exceptionally spacious, a large suite with plenty of room to relax. While comfortable, it felt a little cold during our stay, and overall I wouldn’t describe the accommodations as luxurious. Instead, this hotel offers something different: the rare opportunity to stay in a beautifully preserved Renaissance landmark in one of Germany’s most picturesque cities. The staff were friendly and helpful and we would definitely return.
If you’re looking for modern luxury, this may not be the right fit. But if you appreciate history, character, and an unbeatable location in the heart of Heidelberg, Hotel Zum Ritter St. Georg is a memorable and worthwhile place to stay.

Were at the guesthouse on the 25th for one night. Room is modern,
but quite small. To 2. Here, lies on the route to the Alps. In the evening there was still food, even a little something. Travelling with 2 dogs, no problem, walking around the corner. Breakfast was ok.

The outside of the hotel is gorgeous! The inside is definitely antique but several things were not working such as the shower door in our bathroom and the elevator. We were not told about the elevator prior to our visit. My elderly mom was with me and fell going down the stairs. If you have people with you with mobility or balance issues, this may not be the best hotel for you. The location was excellent. It was within walking distance of the Christmas market, castle, and many shops and restaurants.
