Finding this hotel (by car) was very easy and the parking was directly below the building. Check in was swift and trouble free and our suite (overlooking the park) was spacious and well appointed. Here is what we liked: The traditional decor and atmosphere, the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was very good and light, turndown service (about 5 pm), the Piano bar and garden area were excellent and the bar manager made fantastic cocktails. The tradition hotel restaurant for evening meals was very good. Here’s what could be improved: The wine selection was very limited in the bar which was mostly domestic (perhaps introduce American wine as there seemed a number of American tourists) the gym needed some TLC as half of the equipment was not working. On a minor but important point the entrance from the underground car park to the hotel (via lift) was a bit grim. They are currently doing some renovations to rooms and the swimming pool area which I’m sure will be lovely when finished. Overall a great stay in a perfect location. Everything was walkable and there are lots of bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity. Would definitely stay again.

Definitely not 5 star. We got one bottle of water and one glass which was never changed. No mini bar. Pool was closed. Room was very basic with an illogical design. It was supposed to be a suite. First two nights at turn down only the curtains were closed and it was insanely bright. On the third night we returned to see shutters pulled down. Did not know of their existence for the first two nights. No way to retract them though so now it was dreary during the morning. A/c was the loudest most ineffectual A/C. No hot water the first morning. Scalding hot water the other two mornings. Piano bar is beautifully decorated. The bar man is friendly but not well trained. Seemed very chaotic. Reception staff friendly and helpful. Definitely not worth the price apart from location.

During our summer trip, we stopped in Freiburg for a couple of nights, choosing this hotel as it is affiliated with “The Leading Hotels of the World,” which are always our first option. Classified as 5-star Superior, it is actually an old hotel (1960s) near the historic city center, in a building without any architectural merit but kept quite well, in front of Colombi Park. Arriving at the reception, we were greeted without a smile by a girl, probably inexperienced or perhaps unsuited for the role, who began the check-in. Fortunately, a senior colleague immediately intervened and took charge of the situation: room already ready, upgrade to a very large and comfortable Junior Suite Superior with nice parquet, large bathroom with a window, 1960s furniture but well-maintained, quiet and silent (too bad about the small television). Being LHW members, we found fruit and cake in the room. Breakfast with a fairly extensive buffet and a list of hot dishes cooked to order, nothing exceptional but pleasant. There is an indoor pool and a spa, which we did not try. Why is it not worth 5 stars? Because at the time of our stay (mid-August) there was no Concierge (widely advertised instead in the brochure handed out upon arrival) and we received very little information about the city from the lady at the reception, they do not provide water at the evening turndown nor for the trip when you leave the property (everyone gives it now), we requested some pillows (they have a pillow menu) and the person who answered did not understand (in English...) in short, let's say that the general level here is decidedly poor for the LHW standard that we know very well, and the hotel had low occupancy, so it was easy to serve guests in the best way. Fortunately, the price-quality ratio is fair, but the hotel is at most a 4-star.
