Hotel Augsburg Goldener Falke

Hotel Golden Falke is located a bit outside of the city centre of Augsburg, which makes it very affordable. The neighborhood does have some everyday shops and kebab houses, but for proper restaurants and the main sights to see you'll have to walk around 30 minutes to the city centre. The area near the hotel looks a bit rough and I wouldn't have been to excited if I'd visited with just a girl friend. But I do think it is safe enough. You can park for free near the hotel. They have a tiny designated parking lot and if that is full you can park in the streets behind the hotel. Upon arrival we were welcomed by a kind lady, who checked us in. From the inside the hotel looks like it has just been renovated and updated. Our room was very modern and contained everything one might need in a hotel; bed, nightstands, little seating area, a desk, a wardrobe and a TV. The bathroom was also very well maintained and clean. Breakfast was great. Because of Covid everything was laid on the table in advance, instead of the usual buffet style. There was lots to choose from. Personally I thought the hotel was quite nice but because of the distance to the centre and because of the neighborhood, I will probably stay somewhere else next time I'm in Augsburg. For me the fact that the hotel was very affordable didn't way up to the things mentioned above.

The room provided a very comfortable queen size bed but a small bathroom. The nearby road as well guests outside the room were noisy, obviously the walls/windows are very noise sensitive. There is no elevator available you have to carry your suitcase to the upper floors by using stairs. On the other hand the stuff was very friendly. The hotel was booked by several guests attending a concert at the nearby summer festival, which is a 2-minute walk away - a perfect location.

Honestly, I have no idea where to begin. This hotel was one of the worst experiences of my life. The hotel location was terrible, the only good part about the location was it is a 5 minute walk to the nearest tram and bus stop; however, this stop was far out of the city, almost the end of the line. On numerous occasions it took me upwards of 25 minutes to get to the city center. The entire area around the hotel, known as Oberhausen, is very run down, dirty and crime ridden. On numerous occasions I witnessed individuals being arrested, it was almost a common occurrence. The large amounts of crime bring me to my next point, the hotel staff has no respect for personal property. During my stay, my roommates and I have returned home only to find our door wide open, as the hotel staff had entered our rooms but never closed the door, even to the outside of the building. This was a huge disrespect of our personal space, and a huge threat to the safety of us and our property; which included cash, cellphones and laptops, some of which were brand new. It was so bad it came as no surprise when some locals we met described the area as "the rundown part of Augsburg". The insides weren't much better, the rooms itself were so small it was hard to tolerate. The hotel staff were also very unethical and unprofessional during my stay. Our room has numerous problems, ranging from a clogged toilet, a broken towel rack and leaking shower. The hotel staff tried to push these problems onto us, blaming us for significant and costly damage with the shower. We had no way of knowing any of this, and they "fixed" the problem by placing duct tape along our shower's seals. The hotel staff also violated our personal privacy by entering our room, taking photographs of all of our belongings without our permission and blaming our "messy" lifestyle as a reason for not cleaning our room; even though during our entire 5 week stay we were completely unaware of any maid service at the hotel. In summation, this hotel was one of the most unprofessional and unethical places I have ever visited. I would not recommend this hotel to even my worst enemy. My hope is that one day this hotel shuts down operations because of their blatant lack of respect and unprofessional behavior.
