Hotel Wittelsbach

Really hot summer -nice and cool to sleep. Elegantly oldfashioned style room and comfy beads. Vety clean. Modern bathroom with warm water running enough for both. Splendid view from windows. Good breakfast with variety. Very friendly and helpful staff.

For the money, the Hotel Wittelsbach was spot on for our stay in Berchtesgaden. The location is ideal for strolling around the main restaurant and shopping areas and the view over the valley was pretty nice. We stayed in room 357 (two room deluxe with a large separate living space that was good for family to come over and relax and on the same floor as the breakfast room). Bedroom was large and the beds were good. Would have liked a few more pillows as the ones we had were over-soft (typical in Bavaria). The living room has a nice couch, several chairs, balcony and plenty of storage. No air-conditioning (which we knew beforehand). The two guys at reception were super helpful and friendly. The breakfast was typical German breakfast and the lady there was also super friendly. Parking can be a bit challenging (there's onsite parking) for larger vehicles (we had a 9 passenger van and squeezed in behind the hotel, but just barely). Situated above the Bahnhof, the walk to and from is via a rather steep path. Taxi service is available if you need it. There's a shower/tub combo that will have becoming close friends with the shower curtain.

For the first time in my life I pay 150 Euro for a single night at a hotel. Sadly this only provides a basic hotel experience with no real added luxury, and a reception which is closed several hours during the day. The hotel itself was nice to stay at. The staff was very friendly, and the breakfast was included and good. The room did come with a very nice balcony, giving an amazing view over the city and the mountains surrounding it. The only real downside was the high price due to the touristic location. It was also weird that in the morning, before check out time, twice did the cleaners try to get into my room to clean it. Apart from that, I had a nice time here.
