Hotel Excelsior Munich

I had a single on the 3rd floor. The room had plenty of storage and a mini-fridge with all items being 2 euros. There was no safe or coffee machine. The windows open a bit to let air in. The shower had good pressure. One watch out is the shower was in a bathtub. The step in/out was pretty high. The room was very clean and no noise issues. I did not purchase breakfast. The front desk personnel were friendly. The reason I took away a star is the wifi. It was terrible. I couldn't even access Trip Advisor. Texting required lots of patience. Pictures went through-eventually-sometimes.

Our expensive room’s view was a dark wall. On arriving we picked up the guest information card to find that many large biscuit crumbs from previous occupiers fell out. Although the room was apparently serviced daily, basic items like shampoo were never replaced. After a period of making do, we had to request shampoo and reception grudgingly provided one shampoo for us to share. The area did not feel safe.

I was pleasantly surprised. This is a nice hotel in a great location, with decent sized rooms. However, even though the website offers perks for direct bookings, our group of 12 was put in rooms that do not have coffee makers or microwaves and in the loudest rooms that are not equipped with sound proof windows. Therefore we listened to sirens and the trams that pass by every 10-20 minutes. They offer coffee for €3.50 and breakfast for another €29. pp. For us that equates to over $100. per couple. Overall it was nice but I wouldn’t return.
