We stayed as two couples and will not be back; we were disappointed because far more is conveyed than is actually offered.
Regarding the room.
Presumably, our criticism will also be met with the remark that they want to preserve the originality of the building. A knockout argument to talk one's way out of investments that would actually be necessary to live up to the standards that are conveyed to the outside world and that guests can rightly expect.
The rooms on the upper floor are accessible via an easy-to-walk staircase; they did not show us the elevator, nor was there any offer to help with the luggage.
The rooms are quaint and have seen better days, which one could perhaps explain with tradition or a backlog of investment.
A small, poorly lit bathroom with a very small shower, too small and cramped for tall (over 1.84 m) or large people to shower comfortably, with a high entry step and no grab bar to hold onto.
Only towel hooks, no rack; the towels dry poorly or not at all due to the interior, poorly ventilated bathroom.
Besides the poorly lit bathroom, the mirror in the room was also poorly lit due to its placement in the room, making it difficult to apply makeup, for example; no full-length mirror, which could easily be attached to the inside of the closet door, for instance.
A small and, above all, very low closet; no way to hang up longer clothes. You can only hang something longer on the hook attached to the side of the closet if you bring your own hanger, since the closet only has hangers that are permanently hooked in and therefore do not stay on the side.
Room temperature still acceptable despite hot temperatures and lack of air conditioning.
Do not take rooms 113-115; starting at 6:00 a.m., there are sometimes very loud conversations and the clearing away of glass bottles, etc., as well as cigarette smoke rising during the day because the break and kitchen area is underneath - impossible for non-smokers or people with respiratory diseases.
Fresh lemon water in the room, which unfortunately was not chilled and therefore quickly becomes unpleasant in the summer; well-intentioned, but not well-executed.
Regarding breakfast: Large selection, taste satisfactory to good; the scrambled eggs were very firm and compact, as if from a carton, and barely salted or not salted at all; the prepared berry chia and Bircher muesli were very sweet; good and neat presentation.
It bothered us that no care was taken to ensure that guests appeared appropriately. I don't want to have to look at people in swim trunks and tank tops or bikini tops; the requirements in mid-range hotels in the south are clearer there.
Regarding the ambiance and especially the hallway floors, you don't know whether to call it rustic or just showing its age.
For me, tradition ends where there are tripping hazards and holes hidden by worn-out carpets and uneven spots in the floor that can become dangerous for guests who don't know the best path to walk.
Positive: decent Wi-Fi that you could also work with.
Staff reasonably friendly, but not particularly attentive, at least at breakfast and during the day; we didn't use the hotel's own restaurants, pool, or spa area, and we couldn't get a table either.
We agree with the criticism from another lady that the building looks unkempt in parts.
One could also interpret the lack of inquiry at checkout as to whether everything was to our satisfaction as meaning that they don't even want to hear any potential criticism.
I would recommend that the restaurateurs be a guest in their own house through the eyes of a guest and with the corresponding expectations that are fueled by the presentation of the house; it would probably be a revelation.
We thank you and will not return, nor do we recommend coming here.
It's okay if you're getting off the highway for one night and booking it as a transit hotel.
As a vacation hotel—no thanks, we find it lacking in hospitality, quality, and style.
