Rappen Rothenburg (Comfort)

Lovely hotel and friendly people. We got a free room upgrade and the hotel paid attention to details about our honeymoon (heart-folded pillows for example). We really appreciated this. The room was beautiful and cool despite there being no air conditioning and it was 30 degrees outside. The breakfast buffet was very extensive, we could not taste everything because there was so much choice. In short: great and wonderful enjoyment! The hotel is located near the center and has a large hotel parking. You are literally within 2 minutes in the old town but enjoy a quieter environment with plenty of parking behind the hotel.

We stayed here for 2 nights with our teenage daughter and loved the location — just steps from the walled old town, which made wandering the medieval streets incredibly convenient. On-site parking was a big bonus in a town where that can be tricky. Breakfast was solid and a nice way to start each day of exploring.

During the German heat wave of late June 2026, we stayed at Hotel Rappen in Rothenburg o.b. Tauber. The hotel is just outside the Galgentor (one of the main doors/openings in the medieval wall around Rothenburg). It is not considered "in" the altstadt (old city center), but it'll take you 100 steps or so to get there. Many places in Germany (and Europe), the hotels near city centers are in older buildings and many do not have A/C. The Hotel Rappen is not a new building, but does have A/C, controllable in your room. The hotel has a large eating area for meals and breakfast (we did not eat here during our one day stay). The front desk and staff were friendly and helped my wife with a small issue (she does not speak German). The parking is directly behind the hotel and there is an easy drop off for luggage. The building is large and has an elevator and everything was clean. My kids enjoyed the room immensely, probably because we just came from another hotel with no A/C while it was well over 90°F (32°C) outside. If you want to explore Rothenburg, especially in summer, do yourself a favor and stay at Hotel Rappen and walk into the Altstadt instead of staying inside. Quaint, historical buildings are fun to stay at until you're sweating at night and have to haul large bags up 3 flights of old, slanted stairs.
