Sporthotel Sonnenhof

Very nice land hotel located in quite place in Sonnen. 20km from autobahn. Not so far away from beautiful city Passau. Good place for nordic walking and picnics outside. Near located some sport arenas: football course, cross country course and ski jumping center in Rastbühl, that is near Breitenberg. Big hotel with a lot of numbers, large restaurant with tasty kitchen. Very good room service. Not a lot of everything in room, but everything that need for good sleep and stay. Very kind officiants.

We have visited this hotel for 2 night as we planned to ski at Hochficht. For this, hotel has excellent location. In the woods, just 15 mins drive from ski areal. Hotel has cca 205 rooms and is probably desgined for schools for their ski courses as it can acommodate large group of peoples. During our stay, only 3! rooms were occupied. Food was nothing I can recommend. We got tomato soup with gin and cream and it felt like made from concetrated salt and spices. I can really understand that when you do not have guests, you have no fresh soups, but they can be cooked and shocked to freeze and then regenerated; there is no need for this "instant" food for 3,1 euro. Breakfast was good (considering price) but do not ask for eggs with bacon if you like to eat lightly, it was oily and served bacon was really done to black (I guess someone like it, so no critic, just saying). Room was simple, spacious, bed was a little bit noisy, but ok. Light blanket but heating was working, so no big deal. I guess there may be a problem when hotel is fully booked with noise from other rooms but nothing annoying happened to us, even all three rooms occupied were side by side. Shower and bathroom was ok, problem with sink solved in a minute by their cook. Staff speaks english 50/50. Pool is quite small and sauna acommodates 4-5 ppl (when they are very close). So if hotel is busy, it may be annoying, we, however, enjoyed sauna and it was really relaxing to have it there after whole day of skiing. for overall price 70/euro/room with breakfast it is a budget version of ski trip with ok services, but I am actually not sure I am going back, since I prefer smaller places, family run with some feeling of individuality and not this huge anonymous hotel.

Budget hotel with good location to enjoy skiing Hochficht, shopping Passau or just relaxing days in the sauna. Great eating in restaurant. Siiting with the jumping chapmions corner was also challanging expirience! Worth to visit Bavaria!
