I stayed at the small privately run budget hotel in a quiet residential street in the eastern Berlin suburb of Kaulsdorf. The S-Bahn (line S5 to the city centre) had a station (Kaulsdorf), which was only a 10 minutes walk (via a subway beneath the S-Bahn tracks) from the hotel. Avoiding the subway would involve a longer walk. The hotel has no lifts, so it would not really be suitable for disabled guests. My room, effectively in the attic, was fairly small, but I had a double bed with single size duvet for single occupancy. The room had a small tv and a mini bar and a good sized wardrobe and small table. The drinks and snacks from the mini bar were not free, and at the end of the stay have to be paid for. The small bathroom with w.c., washbasin and shower were perfectly adequate. I decided to have buffet breakfasts, so I had to pay an extra 6 Euros per day, which was a perfectly reasonable cost. The selection of cold meats, cheese, bread, fresh fruit, yoghurts, boiled eggs and drinks can be described as being good. The lady proprietor was very helpful. My only criticism of the hotel was that there were no instructions in my room telling me what to do in the event of an emergency, such as a fire.

This is a small hotel in a quiet area. The hotel is about a 10minute walk from railway station to get to into centre of berlin. There is a bus service also nearby but qickest route to centre is bus train. The room and toilet are were small but the room was clean. No tea or coffee making facility in room. Breakfast was of buffet style and was of good variety.

Some way out of town, but all the better for that. Friendly and welcoming host, and very quiet location (residential street). No frills accommodation, but there was a TV and minibar - we didn't use the minibar. Nearby (outside the S-Bahn station, S5, Kaulsdorf) are a bar and kebab shop which stay open late - I think the bar stays open 24 hours. One caveat - you'll struggle if you don't know at least a bit of German - this location is firmly in the former East Berlin, and hardly anyone speaks English. That said, everyone was friendly and we had a laugh with the barman and the locals. If you want somewhere quiet and reasonably priced, but not too far from the main sights, this is a great choice.
