Mercure Hotel Berlin An Der Charite

Well-located hotel. Comfortable room without a refrigerator but with a coffee maker. Quiet place to rest. Bar. 900 meters from the central station. With tram and subway a few meters away. Supermarket around the corner. Good breakfast. Excellent service from Sergio. Receptionist speaks Spanish. He helped us with suggestions for the area. Same with Federica. We would return

The hotel is very conveniently located for public transport, right beside U-Bahn and tram stop Naturkundemuseum. All the staff (except the young man at the bar) were very helpful and friendly. I was allocated a room away from the front of the hotel although it was still on the outside. A room facing the garden inside would be quieter. At all costs avoid a room at the front as the no.5 tram (which runs very frequently from early morning to late at night) makes a hellish noise as it rumbles round the corner. One of the first things I noticed was the small size of the bedrooms. They're apparently all the same size (just 18 sq m) and this is clearly shown on the website but it is noticeably smaller than any Mercure room I've seen elsewhere. As I was alone there was enough space, for a couple it would have felt a bit cramped. I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights during the recent very hot weather. so the air conditioning in the room was essential. What I did notice though was that, when the outside temperature drops at night, the cooling stops and the system simply blows air at ambient temperature. The bedroom and bathroom were immaculately clearn. Breakfast is served in the ground floor room overlooking the garden. The choice was good, albeit with a definitely German flavour. If you enjoy a good breakfast, it will be worth paying for. I'd searched for the best overall deal I could get but I thought the overall price for the room was expensive even by Berlin standards.

The air conditioning is old, loud, and does not work properly. Especially at these temperatures, the room is hot and stuffy. Sleep is out of the question.
