I booked the higher room category for 20€ because I wanted to treat myself. The description stated: "private terrace or balcony". I was assigned the 'Orangerie' room, which has neither a balcony nor a 'private terrace'. Simply 2 chairs in front of the window, in a passageway where other guests kept walking by, is not a terrace and is not private. I provided this feedback on-site. I was promised that the manager would contact me: now, 3 days later, it has not happened. So I am trying this way. Selling something that does not match the description is fraud. Even if it involves small sums. It is also petty, and no matter how beautiful the place is: in the end, the impression remains that I was deceived, which is simply very unpleasant. Too bad.

We stayed in a family room and had a mixed experience. On the plus side, the location is very quiet and the grounds are well kept and attractive. Breakfast was generous, with a really pleasant outdoor terrace to enjoy it on — though if you want something freshly cooked, your only hot option is a fried egg (no omelette). Many places of interest can be reached on foot, and public transport is good if you need it. Unfortunately, several practical issues weighed things down. Parking was an absolute pain: the spaces are extremely tight, you pay for the privilege, and manoeuvring back out of the courtyard is a challenge in itself. Worse, if you leave your paid parking spot during your stay, there's no guarantee you'll get one back when you return. Our room had a sloped ceiling so low on one side that getting out of bed there was genuinely awkward. The bathroom clearly felt like a later addition to the room, and the separate toilet was more like a converted closet than a proper room. In the second bedroom, the children's beds were too narrow for comfort. Most annoyingly, the parents' bedroom had no proper curtains in places, so in summer the room gets bright very early in the morning. At check-out, nobody asked how our stay had been — a missed opportunity to hear this feedback in person. Overall: a peaceful spot with a nice breakfast setting, but the room design and parking situation left a lot to be desired for the price.

The hotel is located right next to Sanssouci Park, which is very convenient if that is your main destination in Potsdam. However, the location is less practical for most other activities, such as restaurants, cafés, and shopping. Reaching the edge of Potsdam’s old town requires a fairly long walk, including a steep uphill/downhill section with stairs. There is no restaurant on site, so guests need to go into the city for lunch or dinner. That said, the breakfast was excellent, and the room itself was quiet, comfortable, and well equipped with pleasant amenities. The minibar was empty, however, and I would have appreciated it being stocked. Good air conditioning in the room.
