Mercure Kassel

We stayed as a couple a few days in the hotel and felt very comfortable. The room was clean, nicely decorated and pleasantly quiet. Just right to switch off. Breakfast was delicious and there was a good selection. The staff was friendly and always approachable, which made the stay relaxing. The location was also great, you could Enterprise a lot nearby or just walk in peace. Overall a pleasant stay, which we like to keep in good memory.

The best thing going for this hotel is its location. It‘s very near the shopping district of Kassel and Staatspark Karlsaue is about a 10- to 15-minute walk away. Tram stations are also a 3-minute walk away so it‘s quite easy to get around. I really wanted to like this hotel but the airconditioning system of the hotel is very weak to non-existent and added to the discomfort of our stay. We were in the junior suite and we couldn‘t feel anything coming out of the aircon vents. We had to open the windows, even wide open, during the night so that we could get fresh and cool air. It came to a point that I didn‘t want to go back to the hotel because I was thinking of how warm it would be. The pull-out sofa bed was also very uncomfortable - you could feel the springs. Also, when checking in, we were not informed that breakfast was not included in the price, we were just informed where to go for breakfast. The breakfast itself was a buffet and was good, although one day the scrambled egg was not refilled although it was still one more hour left for breakfast. Another good thing is that parking is available for either 13€ per 24 hours or 1,80€ per hour. It‘s probably better to stay in this hotel during winter but in summer I won‘t recommend it.

Our second stay at a nice hotel. Not a bad walk from the Hebrew. Our room was clean quiet, plenty of space, comfortable beds. Our room was hot and stuffy. One window opened a sliver. No a/c, but the “air cooling system” seemed not to work. Although it seemed the hotel was virtually empty the reception person could only offer a fan. Luckily, after a shift change the new person offered to help. He unlocked both windows and we were able to sleep both nights. Negatives: 19€ per person breakfast at a BW seems crazy. Numerous places nearby offer quality breakfasts for far less. Dozens of satellite channels, but we found only Bloomberg and CNBC in English. Amazing a BW branded hotel doesn’t have CNN or BBC or Aljazerra or some other news channel in English. The hotel should state that clearly in its online description.
