Concorde Hotel

We stayed there one night en route from the Netherlands to Spain, via Frankfurt. The hotel is literally a couple of hundred meters away from the main station. It is located in a notoriously gritty neighborhood. Go around the block and you run into many out and down people even in the morning. In the evening it is prostitution and drug central. But I digress. The hotel must have been recently renovated because it is one sleek and well-designed modern venue. The rooms are superb - all Art Nouveau, with clever little touches (e.g., the kettle protruding from the closet/cabinet). We had a room on the 5th floor, where there is a slight decline of the wall, and window fitted nicely into it. The light can be adjusted to your mood - from standard white to blue and orange. The brekkie was included and it was one of the best we ever had. All of that, for two people, at less than 90 Euro. I don't know how that computes for the hotel but I know it was outstanding value for us (a couple, traveling). The staff is friendly and helpful. Lovely people all of them. The front desk also has a list of recommended eating places nearby. It included a Maroccan place nearby (Tatie) which we went to. Good recommendation. Two minor gripes. The electricity sockets in the room we stayed in, were oddly located (one at the top of the bed furthest away from the writing desk, the other at the entry). No outlet at the writing desk. (Confidential to management: an extension cord would work wonders for folks like me who have to do work on their computer while traveling.) The other gripe: The tv offerings are modest - essentially the first and second German national tv and some other regional program - no BBC, CCN, or the like. These gripes aside, I highly recommend this place.

The hotel is well-managed, very clean, and well-equipped. Breakfast was very good. Everything you need and more is available. The location can be an advantage or a disadvantage. However, I believe that parents with small children should perhaps not stay here. The drug scene is omnipresent in the area. However, it can be ignored. Children surely process this differently. However, for travelers passing through, the location right by the train station is still quite good. The price-performance ratio is excellent. Thank you again for the special arrangement. I really appreciate that and would gladly return.

Very uncomfortable experience - hotel is tired (paint peeling off the walls and duct tape over light switches), our room had only 1 switch for all the lights in the whole room + bathroom, and the location is not safe. Drug addled people are walking around, coming into the hotel and my husband was accosted by a man not in his right mind (likely due to a drug induced hallucination). This incident happened directly in front of the hotel, as we were getting into an Uber, and our driver said that incident was not surprising, based on daily activity in the neighborhood. I will say the staff was very friendly but I was concerned for their safety at the front desk, without a security guard on duty. We will not be returning to this hotel.
