Mercure Hotel Wings Frankfurt

on a forced lay-over due to plane‘s mechanical trouble. this hotel is no longer a best western but is called airways hotel frankfurt west. location is awful: industrial area with nothing in walking distance, ten miles from the airport. gentleman at reception unwelcoming and unfriendly. there is a sign for library/books, when trying to open the door a man in dirty underwear opens and yells: go away. when speaking to reception about this, ignorance reigns the day. restaurant with a forgettable buffet is only open for an hour in the evening, the bar is permanently closed and there is no bistro although advertised. hotel was arranged by airline, i would NEVER choose this myself.

The hotel isn't at the airport but is in nearby Raunheim, which is either a shuttle bus ride away or Euro35 by taxi. However, room rates are very reasonable, and the hotel is very clean and comfortable with decent breakfast and helpful reception. Rooms are comfortable. Around Raunheim there are a number of good places for local cuisine and beers. This is much better than being stuck at the airport. The shuttle going to the airport costs Euro5, but that is fair enough as only the users pay the cost. Overall, good Quality Price Ratio and an enjoyable stay.

Clean, spacious, and modern room. Comfortable beds but I would recommend bringing your own pillows. Appears to be well maintained. The staff was friendly and check in was quick and easy. Parking outside hotel is free (if available) and €10 in the underground garage. There is coffee and tea in the room. Bathroom had a full bathtub with shower (not just a shower). We had a closet, desk, small breakfast table, microwave, and mini fridge in our room. Well priced for the quality. Highly recommend.
