The H4 Hotel is a 5-10 minute walk to the centre of Bayreuth and near the Rotmain shopping mall. This hotel was impeccably clean, rooms very comfortable and the staff were so nice. The restaurant is also good, but it has a limited menu (there are three vegetarian options for second course if you count a Caesar salad with no chicken or shrimp.) Our room, 221, overlooked a courtyard, which was quiet. Air conditioning worked great. Bonus is that if you are there for the Bayreuth Wagner Festival, they put on a shuttle bus for guests going there. Make sure you register yourself with reception for the days you need a bus (it's possible this is only for the Ring Cycle, so check if you are going to other operas). They check as you board the bus. (Getting back from the Festival can be hectic and not always the same bus was there that you boarded.)
Two slight negatives. 1. We only had hair shampoo in the shower. We requested shower gel - we did get this after requesting twice. We couldn't work out whether this was the same as the hair shampoo. Besides the hair/body gel and hand gel there are no other amenities such as hair conditioner, body/hand lotion and shower cap. 2. the cleaners seem to come in the afternoon around 2pm, just as we were going to dress for the opera to get the 3pm bus. Twice we had to say that we were dressing and we'd be out in an hour. It was rather strange. You would think they would clean the rooms when people were out in the morning.

Nice hotel and centrally located. Parking in the underground garage and the shuttle to the festival worked wonderfully. We would love to come back.

The Hotel Residenzschloss Bayreuth turned out to be a bullseye. Everything (almost) was right here.
Let's start with the less successful features: Rooms are ready for occupancy at 3:00 PM. When we wanted to check in at approximately 3:30 PM, the assigned room was not ready. We had to wait about another half hour. However, a colleague at the front desk then rebooked us to a room that was already ready, and so we were able to check in right away after all. This room was originally intended for one person, and unfortunately it took several requests before we received a second duvet and a second pair of towels. In the underground garage, there is an area reserved only for SUVs; for "normal" vehicles, double stacker parking spaces are available. Unfortunately, some drivers apparently could not read, and so some SUV spaces were always occupied by non-SUVs. The normal parking spaces were only partially suitable for SUVs. On one day, we could not park in the underground garage but had to park our vehicle in the outdoor area (however, we were not charged any underground garage fees). Here, management should develop a concept that enables a secure parking situation, e.g., by asking for the vehicle type at the time of reservation and assigning fixed spaces.
But enough "complaining" now, let's move on to the positive points, which - even if the text above is very long - absolutely outweigh the negatives!
The room was very large and, with three floor-to-ceiling windows, also very light-filled. Due to its location facing the inside, the room was almost free of car noise. Modern furnishings with an excellent bed. We were able to sleep very well for the four nights. Nespresso machine. Minibar and a quite large television rounded off the positive impression. The lighting control, which works exclusively via touch modules, takes a little getting used to, but after the second attempt, operating it was routine.
Very spacious bathroom with a walk-in, floor-level shower. There is a lack of storage space.
The breakfast, which could also be enjoyed in the garden area, was excellent. There was truly something for every taste. Lots of fruit and vegetables, various types of cold cuts and cheeses. Bread, rolls, croissants, and other treats, various juices, and both diverse types of coffee from the machine as well as freshly brewed filter coffee were offered. The attentive staff paid close attention to availability and also to cleanliness.
The location of the hotel can hardly be topped. It is about a three-minute walk to the beginning of the pedestrian zone. This way, you have the advantage of almost direct access to the old town, but not the noise from the restaurants there.
Conclusion: Absolutely recommendable hotel in the somewhat higher mid-price segment. Great room, very good breakfast.
