Ramada Hotel Bochum

We spent two nights as a family with three people at this hotel to attend a performance of Starlight Express. We originally booked a comfort room at the H+ Hotel, which has since been renamed a Best Western Hotel. Unfortunately, the room did not meet our expectations for a comfortable and spacious ambience. The decor was spartan and the location of the room led to a view of the kitchen, accompanied by appropriate soundscapes. In addition, the nearby elevator and those waiting in front of it were an additional source of noise. The room had neither a refrigerator nor a closet, and the extra bed was in an unreasonable condition – the slatted frames were palpable through the mattress, and it was both too thin and too small. The bathroom looked a bit old and overall the hotel required a renovation. As for the restaurant offerings, the choice was limited. In addition to schnitzels with various sauces, there was only Currywurst. The schnitzel dish, which cost around €24, had a distinct convenience character, and the food was usually served lukewarm or even cold. The staff was heavily overloaded, especially during peak times – in the morning at breakfast and shortly before the performance. A positive aspect, however, was the hotel's immediate location next to the Starlight Theater, which is significant for many guests.

On the occasion of my birthday I stayed at the H+ Hotel Bochum during a visit of the Starlight Express. The reception was very pleasant: Although the staff was visibly a bit stressed, I was always met friendly and accommodating. The check-in went smoothly, and I received my room key directly. The room made a good impression overall. Both the room itself and the bathroom were clean and tidy. The facilities are perfectly fine for a short stay and meets everything you need. The only small shortcoming was the lighting in the room, which only partially worked or not at all in places – that was a bit of a shame, but not a big annoying factor for me. The location of the hotel is unbeatable: directly opposite the Starlight Express – it really doesn’t get any closer. But I can absolutely recommend the hotel alone, especially in combination with the fair value for money. There is a small downside to parking: The parking space belonging to the hotel costs 10 euros for the night. As a hotel guest I find this a bit of a shame, as in my opinion a hotel's own parking space should be free of charge when staying overnight. Of course, I understand that there is a parking fee due to the proximity to the Starlight Express, as there are also many external visitors parking there. Nevertheless, it would be desirable to distinguish here – for example, to allow hotel guests who have checked in to park for free and to charge pure Starlight Express visitors with the parking fee. The breakfast included in the room rate was very good and rich. The breakfast staff is particularly positive: attentive, friendly and always striving to clear used dishes quickly and to ensure sufficient supplies at the buffet. That's definitely a big plus. Conclusion: Despite small weaknesses in the lighting and parking costs, I can clearly recommend the H+ Hotel Bochum due to the excellent location, the good price and the friendly service. Should I visit the Starlight Express again, I would book this hotel again without hesitation
