Somewhere on a golf course, the proud building rises majestically by a small lake and already comes across as very postcard-like.
There is no second chance for a first impression – but unfortunately, that didn't last long.
The staff at the reception was **really** very friendly and relaxed. I would like to emphasize that.
First low blow: My room was on the 3rd. floor directly above the parking lot. I really had a lot of luggage with me for professional reasons, so I had to go twice. No sign of an elevator. I basically understand that with such an old building, but they could have perhaps pointed that out to me at check-in and clarified whether that was okay for me.
The room itself was unfortunately very run-down. I am generally not a fan of carpets in hotel rooms – for hygienic reasons. But this one was really more than unpleasant. Several unidentifiable stains, which I hope came from containers and not from people. Crushed mosquitoes on the walls and a very dirty refrigerator, which also smelled as if Jeffrey Dahmer had lived here before me.
The shower-tub was quite cramped and you honestly had to let the water run for ten minutes before it got warm.
I had the bad luck of arriving on the first night at 95 degrees. Accordingly, in the 3rd. floor (attic) there were temperatures where I thought two small, barefoot boys had dramatically thrown a ring into my room.
I didn't expect air conditioning anyway, but at such temperatures, the hotel could have at least equipped the upper floors with fans.
I had dinner at the adjacent restaurant. I am not sure to what extent the hotel and restaurant belong together. If not, please consider the following criticism separately.
Basically, the restaurant here also benefits from the beautiful location. A very large terrace that was relatively well-attended.
The menu was manageable, with a few – including seasonal – but well-chosen dishes. I'm not a fan of menus that are too large anyway.
I had a question about the "forest schnitzel" and therefore waved over a waiter, who merely said: "EATITOREAT?" and pointed out to me that he only takes drink orders. Which should actually exempt him from knowing the menu, right?
Another employee was then able to help me identify the schnitzel I had chosen.
The pork schnitzel was really top-notch: with mushroom cream sauce and fresh mushrooms (unfortunately, that's no longer a given), crispy fries, and unfortunately a bit too little mayo.
The whole thing was rounded off with a warm chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream on a bed of caramel sauce. From a package, but very delicious.
Ordering it was also quite an adventure, however, because you first had to catch the waiter responsible for it.
It was really annoying that I asked a total of three waiters for the bill afterward and had to wait 45 minutes until I could finally pay.
I spent the night mainly in my own sweat – but the hotel is not to blame for that.
The breakfast buffet was manageable, but perfectly adequate. Pre-made scrambled eggs, completely fine in terms of quality. However, no fresh egg dishes were offered, which is usually standard at a four-star hotel.
You had to get the coffee yourself from the automatic machine, which is perfectly fine. Of course, they save on the beans here, which would surprise me in retrospect, since the coffee was apparently **not** included in the breakfast.
In the evening, I was in the beer garden one more time and just wanted to drink a shandy and answer a few emails.
It was well-filled, as a golf tournament awards ceremony was apparently taking place.
After about 15 minutes, I ordered my shandy, which was brought ten minutes later. I also asked for the bill directly and was informed that I would be notified.
Unfortunately, it was a pilsner and not a shandy. Another 15 minutes later, I was able to point out the faux pas to a waitress.
Another 15 minutes later, a different waitress brought me a quarter glass of Sprite to mix myself.
I actually had to laugh at that. I have truly never experienced anything like that before.
So I had to drink the half-finished pilsner, which had already been sitting there for quite a while, because I had actually assumed I would get a new drink to then mix it with the Sprite.
I also reminded the waitress with the Sprite about the bill once again.
From that point on, it took a full hour until the bill arrived.
I actually find that unacceptable.
The breakfast the next morning was similar to the one the day before.
After that, I packed my things and checked out around 11:00 a.m.
I actually find 95 € per night quite fair. 12.45 € for breakfast as well. But 7 € for coffee per day? 14 € for two cups of cappuccino from the automatic machine?
Sorry, but that is unfortunately not okay.
So a total of 229 € for two nights.
I would like to emphasize once again that the staff was completely friendly and every employee had a smile on their face.
But the quality of the room and the service were unfortunately not in proportion to the total of 229 €.
As I learned later, there are apparently also renovated rooms. However, I was not granted that luck.
Too bad...
