I had a terrible experience with the Clayton Hotel Düsseldorf regarding items left behind in my room, and I feel compelled to warn future guests about their severe lack of professionalism and communication. I accidentally left two very expensive dresses in my hotel room. The moment I realized, I emailed the hotel immediately to report it. What followed was weeks of unacceptable radio silence and frustration: No communication: It took them a full week to reply to my initial email. Ignoring phone calls: Because they wouldn’t answer my emails, I had a friend in Germany call the front desk on my behalf. She called on five different days at various hours throughout the day, and nobody ever picked up. Suspicious credit card request: Finally, I received an email stating they found the dresses and needed my credit card information to purchase postage. I provided the information immediately. More ghosting: After giving them my card info, they completely ignored me for another full week. The "disappearance": Only after my friend in Germany finally managed to get someone on the phone did the story completely change. Suddenly, they claimed they don't actually have the dresses after all. This whole situation feels incredibly sketchy. It feels less like an oversight and more like an attempt to fish for my credit card information while keeping my expensive dresses. If you value your belongings and expect even basic levels of customer service or communication, avoid this hotel. The handling of this situation was completely unprofessional, dishonest, and deeply suspicious.
