Hotel Schloss Gartrop

We were invited to a wedding party at Schloss Gartrop last weekend and stayed in the hotel for this purpose. After all, there is nothing more pleasant than being able to go straight to bed from the celebration and start the next day rested. This plus in comfort may well cost something. I would like to share our experiences. To the arrival: Impressive at first glance. You drive over the complex and a bridge in front of the stately home. We had left in time and arrived at the hotel around 2:30 p.m., but found a locked door. Shortly afterwards, a staff member from reception came and explained to us that check-in was only possible from 3pm. If we did not want to pay an additional fee, we would have to wait: Outside. Because the door was closed in front of her. At this point, you should work on your expectations, especially if you want to enter with a broken foot on crutches. The reception was open for check-in and the formalities were completed. At the same time we were informed that we could have breakfast in the room. The room itself was poorly lit, which is challenging for cosmetics at least in the bathroom. Incidentally, it was spacious, and adapted in style to the age of the building. The bed was very comfortable and not too soft. Thanks to the fact that the doors closed very hard, however, a steady crash from the hallway could be heard and a calm could hardly be thought of. After arranging our breakfast time the day before for 09:00, the phone rang punctually at 09:00 and we were asked what coffee and how we wanted our egg. Ten minutes later the coffee was brought. A large round tray with two cups of coffee was placed in the room, which overloaded the small round table of our exclusive double room. Breakfast itself, we were told, would follow shortly. “Equal” were 10 – 15 minutes later, the coffee was empty or cold at that point. The “castle breakfast”, for which more than 30 euros were charged per person, was brought on a tray that the employee himself did not know where to place. It found two-thirds of space on the small desk. Per person two small rolls with olive and croissants, a piece of butter and a small cup of cottage cheese for two people. The cheese offered was very reminiscent of the “cheese cold cuts with different varieties” from the discount store. Plates – except those with the scrambled eggs – a glass of juice, water or even napkins: Misrepresentation. The fact that you have to pay more for your overnight stay in a historic building is not in the criticism. A breakfast price of over 30 euros is high, but would have been acceptable with appropriate quality, appealing surroundings and good service. For a double room with breakfast for just under 290 euros per night, however, you can expect significantly more than the value for money offered at Schlosshotel Gartrop. Also, a more thorough passage with the wipe and dust cloth before moving into the room would have helped eliminate the water stains in the bathroom and the dust looming on the dark furniture. And perhaps it would be appropriate in early October, with single-digit temperatures at night, to restore the heating in the rooms to a working condition. All in all, we expected a lot and were disappointed. We can only advise against an overnight stay – especially with breakfast.

As a counterpart to other reviews, it is a matter close to my heart to counter these with a star-worthy plea. Based on the good experiences that my partner and I had at Gartrop Castle when planning our wedding. For weeks, the team has been giving us a lot of attention and a co-creative working relationship and consideration of our wishes and ideas. Some of these, such as a vegan buffet and alcohol-free dinner, are rather unusual. What we particularly like here: * the beautiful and very well-kept location with a very special energy. * the animals, such as the four peacocks, ducks and swans, which move freely around the property and are very trusting. * the commitment of the manager and employees, who approach us with ambition, authenticity and benevolence. * the skills and ideas that are naturally incorporated into our planning in order to arrange an all-round successful celebration. * Transparency of services and costs. * the consideration and consideration of our possibilities - not just financial ones. * the naturalness and at the same time the professionalism in the advice and joint development. * the rooms, which are very different in style, lovingly and high-quality furnished. * the constructiveness in the communication with one another. We are looking forward to - no, much more about! - the design of our celebration of love and life. - Because this is already happening NOW.

We were invited to a wedding. If we had read the reviews beforehand, we would have assumed that some people wanted to harm the hotel, But that's not the case! All criticism of the hotel is more than justified. The icing on the cake is the totally overpriced breakfast included in the room price. It defies description. If someone wants to be really ripped off, they will be well looked after there. Our tip: keep your hands off it!!!
