The room we had in the annex was spacious with a modern bathroom, sitting area and separate desk. The hotel positions itself as a 'green' hotel which means that they come every other day to clean the room (totally fine) but also that there is no fridge nor air conditioning in the room. The latter is a lack, especially with the heat that you can not keep out well as there are no curtains but sliding wooden panels. As a result, the room is constantly light (even at night). You can park the car in a private parking lot in the courtyard. A bus to Münster stops a 1-minute walk from the hotel. Staff are very friendly and attentive. There is no bar where you can sit, but there is a fridge in the common area where you can take something out (and also write it down). Breakfast was in the basement and was just ok - not great; you do have choice (also 2 vegan spreads) but it's also exactly the same every day. An omelet or fried egg can be asked by the helpful staff. Dinner is of a very different caliber. Together with 5 other restaurants nearby they offer the same menu per month at the same price (also vegan and vegetarian) - customized wines included. You can also eat à la carte, but that menu is very limited (and pricey). Disadvantage: on Mondays the restaurant is closed and on the other days you get the same thing every time. The food is delicious and also adequate. The controls are incredibly responsive and very attentive. The setting is beautiful.

We spent two separate nights here recently on our way to and from Sweden. Once we had cracked on our first visit how to get into the hotel access it was great. A word to those approaching from the motorway, ignore the turn right sign to the hotel, go to the next set of traffic lights and turn left! The hotel is situated in a very large ‘park ‘ which includes a golf course, a stream full of fish and ducks and for the gadget lovers, we think an automatic grass cutter on the golf course! The hotel is an old castle, and with it comes stairs up to the front entrance, and stairs up to reception. The staff are very helpful and happy to take luggage up to one’s room. The restaurant is first class and our meal there didn’t disappoint. Breakfast is served in the undercroft - there’s a stairlift for those less able, and wheelchair users can enter from another way. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and the suite we had on our return journey was great, beautiful view over the golf course, and beautifully appointed. We will certainly return. For English visitors, you may be lucky to meet Tim, he’s a gem.

We visit Münster several times a year and always unconsciously passed by the Schloß Wilkinghege. Since we were made aware of the castle by my mother-in-law, we booked an overnight stay for our short trip. We were thrilled! At check-in, we were greeted very warmly and thoroughly informed. Visually, the castle is a feast for the eyes both inside and out. The old was preserved and unobtrusively supported by the modern. Of course, we had to try the cuisine as well. And once again, we were thrilled. A small but very fine menu. Since we do not eat much in the evening, we decided on individual dishes. In the wine selection, we found a pairing for a menu that was not listed on the wine list. Of course, we still received the wine. Here too, the service was very friendly and attentive. This is how the lords of the castle must have felt in the past. The next day, after breakfast, we continued on to Münster. But our next stay in Münster will again lead us to the Schloß Wilkinghege, and then gladly for a longer time.
