Very friendly staff. From 6pm, however, no one is there from the staff. Room was better equipped than shown on the hotel website. There was, for example, a fridge and an electric kettle that was not mentioned before. Strange was a remark on the booking confirmation - so the room should only be cleaned every three days. Well, in fact, it was already in the morning after the 1. Overnight stay cleaned. This part of communication should be improved. It would be better if the guests knew what really awaits them. The elevator seems to work only sporadically, there is a sign attached that it is not allowed to be used, but then it worked. The double room cost 125 euros per night. Breakfast costs 18 euros per person extra (for 2 people 36 euros). I would recommend travelers to book the room without breakfast. Explanation: The photos here at Tripadvisor are out of date. At the Paulin Hotel, only part of the breakfast is offered as a buffet. Rolls, cold cuts and cheese are assigned to a room number. The concept of allocation is problematic in my view because the guest cannot choose from these ingredients according to preference, but is given a plate with a composition chosen by the staff. In addition, there was by no means "supply" - there were 2 rolls calculated per person and exactly these 4 rolls for 2 people are on the table reserved for the room. The question of more rolls and more butter led to unrest. Actually, only 2 buns would be possible, more would not be available. Finally, a single bun was found somewhere - butter not. This allocation concept causes me to be in a rather bad mood in the early morning. The sum of the services room and breakfast therefore do not correspond to the sum to be paid.

The location was an easy walk from the train station and just a half block from the Porta Nigra and the old town section of Trier. The room was clean and fresh. Breakfast was excellent. The woman who managed the breakfast room was friendly and efficient and there was a variety of food offered. The breakfast room was attractive and pleasant. The only significant negative: During our stay the elevator was not available. Some visitors might be disturbed because there was not a 24-hour desk clerk but we were given a key to enter the building.

Great location, just a few steps from the Porta Negra. We decided on this hotel on the strength of the previous great reviews. Our expectations therefore were quite high and our experience didn’t match. It was an okay stay but fairly ordinary. We booked on the hotel’s website. You can’t pay online so a reservation was sent and I smartly received a confirmation email and a phone call a few minutes later. The check in process was fast. The room was a decent size, was tidy and clean, and had everything but looked a bit dated, from the 1980s. The worst bit was the smell emanating from the bathroom, like old drains. There’s no one on reception in the evenings to report it to and luckily by morning the smell had gone. We did mention it on the way out though. Our room was very quiet and we slept well. We had no view of the Porta Negra (we hadn’t expected one but there are apparently rooms which do have a side view). The WiFi is dreadful: we finally gave up on it. I managed to get a connection after trying many times but the signal was so weak that I couldn’t use it. We didn’t go for breakfast (an extra €12.50 each) nor for the parking (an extra €10. We’ve stayed at other hotels in Trier in the past which have been better so are unlikely to go back to this hotel.
