Globana Airport Hotel

I stayed at the Globana recently for just one night. I thought everything about it was excellent with the possible exception of the location. It seemed to be quite a long way from the airport. That said, it is near a station that takes you directly to Leipzig.

We booked two double rooms at the Globana Hotel over Christmas for a total of five people. Due to our Genius-3 status at Booking, the price was correspondingly attractive, in addition to being explicitly advertised with “free accommodation for children”. In advance, we had already transparently indicated the number and age of all fellow passengers via Booking. On arrival, we were not greeted by the receptionist with a smile or a usual greeting, but immediately confronted with the suggestion that we had booked only two double rooms for three adults. The children were apparently not recorded on the system side. I explained that there were five of us and that we had stated this in writing several times. In the event that this information should have perished, I would like to book an extra bed for our ten-year-old daughter – for a fee, of course. The answer was: “That’s not the point. You get what you booked – for three adults.” He also pointed out that he had no access to the chat history at Booking and the hotel was busy, so no extra blanket could be procured – for a ten-year-old child, at 10:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve at –7 °C outside temperature. Only after more minutes of an unpleasant discussion did we finally get a blanket. I can only guess whether this was because my husband (European, blond, blue-eyed) joined us (all female, Asian), or whether a little Christmas miracle actually happened and a blanket appeared in the camp. Overall, I found the receptionist's behavior neither customer-friendly nor solution-oriented. Especially from a four-star hotel, I expect a significantly higher degree of service orientation and flexibility, especially if – as here – it is a comparatively trivial and easily resolvable concern. The incorrect exchange of information between the Globana Hotel and booking should not be at the expense of the guest. This problem might not have occurred with a direct booking via the hotel website. However, if this is the preference or even implicit expectation of hotel management, it misses the reality of life of many guests. Price comparisons and the use of established booking portals such as booking with discounts and status advantages are now more common than direct bookings. Therefore, out of self-interest and for the benefit of the guest, the hotel management should ensure that agreements between the guest and the cooperation partner - ergo the booking portal - are also known to the hotel staff themselves. Our conclusion: Next time we decide to go to the Best Western in Leipzig.

Good standard to room and breakfast. Welcoming kit to the dog. Typical short overnight stay close to Autobahn (5 mins). Not so friendly welcoming late at night (0200 AM) reception.
