Steigenberger Esplanade

It is now a Dorint Esplanade Hotel, supposedly one of the best places in Jena. Good location, otherwise, well: The entire building is completely dysfunctional; under the glass dome, it gets very warm, and one does not want to stay there in the bar. The lobby and reception are separate, resulting in long distances. Reception staff are overwhelmed but friendly, very nice in the bar. We had a so-called comfort double room, which is quite dated. We could not understand how one would come up with the idea to install the bathroom or toilet door next to the head of the bed, just as we could not understand the room service on demand. The kicker is the air conditioning: it is turned off at night, and during the day, one is not in the room, so it cannot be cooled. As a result, one sleeps at night in the warmth or not at all. The reception always looked for excuses as to why it had to be done this way, which was not very convincing. When the air conditioning was running, it was also loud. Either get a handle on deficits, train staff properly, or cut prices in half. As it currently stands, it resembles a scam more than a premium stay.

We put our family here on the Christmas holidays, they were warmly and courteously welcomed. The house was everywhere very festive and lovingly decorated, it really set up Christmas spirit, even in the room lay a little Christmas surprise. Our family felt very comfortable and was very taken by the atmosphere, the house and the room.

Top hotel in Jena, top facilities, great rooms, great bed, great breakfast. simple as it should be. Only it would be nice if there was a vending machine in the stucco works, because the one at the reception is poorly stocked.
