Candia Hotel

The rooftop bar, restaurant, and hangout area makes this hotel a real gem! It’s an easy walk from the metro, and the location affords an incredible view of the city, including the Acropolis. Breakfast was generous, and hotel staff happily helped procure transportation that we needed to our next destination.

We stayed 6 nights at the Candia Hotel. Overall, we had a very good experience. The room was a bit outdated, but on the other hand, clean and comfortable. The internet was good for our boys to play their games and watch their stuff on their tablets, and for me to do my work. A few more TV channels in English would make the experience even better. The area where the hotel is located does not look that good, but it is safe. The hotel is not in the city centre, but the metro station is about a 5-6 minute walk and 2 stations away from the main metro station in the city centre (i.e. Syntagma). Although there are many restaurants and bars around the area, we found the issue that there were not take aways. This made eating a bit more expensive, and the kids were not always keen to experiment with new food. Later on, however, we discovered a plaza with a church (the Church of Saint Paul), 5 minutes away by walking in the opposite direction (going left when coming out of the hotel building). There, we discovered a very nice place called “Tasty Corner”, which offered very tasty takeaway-like food, like Greek kebabs. We really enjoyed the food from that place, and the prices were also OK. The breakfast offered by the hotel was very acceptable, and the staff were helpful. The terrace at the top of the building was very nice and relaxing, with a beautiful view of the Parthenon. The pool is small, and the water was a bit cold, but the kids really enjoyed it, pretty much every day. Considering the good price and overall experience, we would definitely recommend the Candia Hotel and give it a 5*.

We chose to stay one night at Candia as it is a few minutes walk from Larissa train station, and we had an early morning train trip. We did not have high expectations for the stay. However, we were delighted with our experience. The ground floor reception area is a little sparse and weary, but our room was spotlessly clean and well presented. The bathroom was modern and sparkling, the bed comfortable. The rooftop bar area is nicely laid out, the staff congenial and the evening views of Athens’ rooftops are a real treat. Can’t comment on the food as we didn’t eat at the hotel, This is a very tidy, well run property, and we recommend.
