Grande Bretagne Hotel

All of the recent Trip Advisor reviews of the Hotel Grande Bretagne perfectly summarize this marvelous hotel in the heart of Athens. We could not be more impressed with the impeccable level of service, delicious breakfast each morning with a clear view of the Acropolis, spectacular location, and comfortable, clean one-bedroom suite we could retreat to after days spent exploring Athens. The room was quiet at night with blackout curtains. We slept very well here. Bathroom amenities were top-notch too.

This is a beautiful hotel with extremely passive-aggressive staff who hate their guests. After a relaxing afternoon at the over-priced pool bar, the staff literally turned up the music 30 minutes to closing to drive out the last guests. I was blasted out of a nap after paying for a 40 euro burger. This is the kind of behavior Marriott’s management tolerates on one of its premiere properties?

We had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Grande Bretagne. The location is great! We could walk everywhere—the Acropolis, National Garden, Agora, and the Plaka and Kolonaki neighborhoods. The concierge was incredibly helpful. They arranged tours for us and recommended restaurants. The expansive breakfast buffet and menu was delicious, and was only outdone by the view every morning of the Parthenon. We also enjoyed the lovely rooftop pool. The service was outstanding—all the staff we encountered was friendly, helpful and eager to please. We will be back!
