Matala Dimitris Villas and Hotel

Set in quiet gardens on the outskirts of Matila, this small complex of apartments is ideal for a peaceful stay. The room is nicely furnished with a model shower room, tv and fridge. There is a small balcony over looking the gardens. There is a really lovely swimming pool for guests use. We were able to park our hire car close to the accommodation and walk into town in about 15 minutes.

Good value, but ruined by a total absence of hospitality To be fair, the property offers great value for money, a convenient location, and the rooms were quite clean. However, the lack of basic hospitality completely ruined the experience. We arrived at 12:00 knowing check-in was at 15:00, simply checking whether the room might be ready earlier. There was no one at reception, and guests were left to deal only with a cleaner, who was clearly not in a position to handle guest requests. After a long journey, we were initially denied access to a restroom due to the lack of facilities in the common area, which was highly inappropriate for arriving guests. Only after contacting the owner via Booking.com was a restroom opened, without any apology or explanation. Communication from management was consistently poor, and our requests for updates were ignored. When we returned at 14:40, the owner was present but did not greet us or provide any information, and we were simply made to wait until exactly 15:00 despite the property appearing empty in low season. This is not about strict check-in times, but about a complete lack of basic hospitality and professionalism. Leaving guests without proper reception support and refusing basic courtesy sets the wrong tone from the start. We will not be returning.

The worst experience in an accommodation facility: to be avoided absolutely. I wouldn’t even call the Dimitris Villa a “hotel”: it’s a country house disguised as a tourist facility. We had booked a double room, but without any notice we were assigned a single room with two tiny beds, barely suitable for children. The linen was embarrassing: a simple sheet resting directly on the mattress, without mattress topper — decidedly unhygienic (photo attached). The room was cramped, not soundproof (you could hear every word from the neighbors) and with unusable bathroom: shower and sink completely clogged. Check-in (after 15:30) and check-out times are uncomfortable, and there is no real reception. Breakfast is extremely basic and is absolutely not worth the extra cost. But the worst came on the second day: after returning from a day at the beach, we found the room exactly as we had left it — no cleaning, no change of towels. After reporting the problem to the agency, they lied and said they contacted us to fix the room, which never happened. I just wish I'd left if I lost the money! Non-existent Service, neglected facility, don't be fooled by the photos - this place is anything but a hotel. A real scam!
