Niouris Apartments

The place looked nice overall. They changed the sheets every two days and took out the garbage. However, the WI-FI was very poor, almost nonexistent. They asked a 5 euro fee/day for the air conditioning even though it was supposed to be free. Also, there were ants in the room- after we washed some dishes some leftovers remained in the sink..we came back to find ants all over the counter/sink.. The pool is very nice, indeed. However, it does not belong to the Marina complex. They rent it and the program is from 9:00 to 19:00. Also, as it is private, you are not allowed to bring any drinks/snacks to the pool..you must buy everything at the pool bar.

We stayed at this place for a week in august 2014. We booked a two bedroom apartment at the top floor. As I see now, reading other reviews there is an unclear situation regarding the name of this establishment, as we initially believed that we are going to stay at Marina's Apartments and ended up by staying at Niouris . Probably that they are a family business and accommodate the tourists somehow, depending on the availability of rooms in the owned buildings.Our building is the one next to the pool. The bedrooms are spacious enough considering the category, however the bathroom and kitchen were the biggest disappointment ever met in a hotel. T In the kitchen was grease all over, the dishes were dirty and the furniture old, rusty and full of grease and mold. The bathroom also offered us a terrible view. There was no shower curtain and the walls covered with mold. I had to buy some chlorine solutions and clean the shower tub in order to protect the kids feet and ours of course and also I cleaned the toilet and the sink. Last but not least the doors were very noisy and they had to be greased couple of times at our request in order to avoid waking the entire family in case one of us had to go to the toilet during night. I red the reviews of others before leaving. ( for Marina as I did not know that there is a possibility that we will be accommodated in a different building). They were not great, but I thought that, OK maybe the others were some grumpy people, unfortunately most of them proved to be true. Now I'm reading those related to this building(Niouris) and I see that there are similar opinions. I don't expect more quality of service that the one appropriate for the hotel's category. However mold and grease and total lack of cleaning the bathroom and kitchen is not acceptable regardless the number of stars. I hope the owners will read this and do something about it in the near future, but until then I strongly advice to avoid the place or in case you decide that the price you pay is attractive at least ask specific details regarding the building in which you are going to stay and try get used with the idea that is possible to face this situation so avoid total disappointment and ruin your vacation.

To be clear, there are several buildings named Marina and Niouris. My review is about the latter, but when we bought the tickets it was unclear where we’ll stay. To be more precise, I’m reviewing the red building situated by the pool. I think the confusion is due to the owners, who don’t say clearly on the site which is which….We had accommodation facing the area of the pool, at ground floor (room 5) and, contrary to those facing the street, the level of noise was low. Pray to have well behaved neighbors (as we did, thank ya` , guys!), because in theory, you can hear all their moves. The rooms are not bad, large, cool and little musty, with small kitchenettes and sea-themed curtains. The view is nice, towards a forest hill. The beds and pillows are not comfortable, but my back didn’t hurt, so it’s ok. Entomologists would be happy with this accommodation: rooms are well garnished with ants and mosquitoes. Sometimes you even get the chance to meet a wasp. Don’t leave food outside, or it will be invaded by the army of ants! In the bathroom there is no shower-curtain, so after each shower you’ll get a swamp on the tiles, drying off after many many more hours! On the Niouris Marina site it is written that you have a lot of home appliances; you don’t! There is just a rusty old electric oven +stove and a kettle (no hair dryer, for example). We were not there to cook, but I tried to boil some water for pasta on the stove and it boiled in. a very very long time. Internet is advertised as being available in all rooms: another lie...there is no net…You’ll get it (sometimes, rather rare, `because generally it’s broken) only round the pool. The pool closes at 8 – 8.30 PM so after that...adieux internet…We staid 7 days and I think internet worked only 3. The big surprise was that one day I had to send documents back home, went by the pool and staid for about 5 minutes when…a lady came and told me that she has internet just for her costumers and I have to drink or eat smth in order to use the net!. I told her what I was also told, that we stay here and can use the area freely. With a dark and sour figure she said: no. So I left. After all, the locals deserve the crisis (I’m half Greek and I don’t say these things with an easy heart, but...) The owner “greeted” us at the beginning (army-style: you go there, you go there, no hello, no welcome) but after that there is no one to ask things around. Not that the presence of the owner would be of any use: he doesn’t speak English.... I have many other complaints, but I think I’ll get nervous and it’s better to stop. The icing on the cake is that we had to leave the room at 9 AM in the last day, because they said they have to clean! At 9 am?! Next time throw away tourists at 5 AM… just make them see the sunrise in Agios Gordios…( Avoid the Niouris by all means..
