Atlantis Houses

I stayed two nights with my wife in the Nina Tholos apartment which is the yellow house on the first floor next to the blue one. The house is very typical, in the heart of the alleys of Chalki. The apartment inside is small but functional. The only problem is the small bathroom that has only a shower hanging on the wall without even a curtain and then everything floods. Beautiful instead the terrace which is large and with sea view, with a nice table where you can eat outdoors and relax. For a few days stay is fine.

We booked with Atlantic Houses late in the day after the property we had chosen decided to "bait and switch" having had our booking for 6 months. We did not realise that we were now booking with what seems to be a fairly large company letting many places in Halki. We arrived off the boat we had told them we were catching to find no-one waiting on the quay. We had no address and so could not go there ourselves. We rang a telephone number we had been told to use for the Atlantic Houses rep, only for her to say she no longer worked for them. We then rang an emergency number for Atlantic Houses and had a recorded message in Greek. All the other accomodation reps and persons coming off our boat had left when someone arrived. There was no apology for keeping us waiting. He walked us up almost to the top of the town with our luggage. The property he took us to was very very small , so that there was no room to open our cases without putting them on the bed. He then said he could also offer the place next door. This was bigger and so we took this. However it had its problems. The sleeping area was on a mezzanine ( which is common) but it had no bannister either on the wall or on the other side of the stairs. The toilet and shower was downstairs which meant either putting on the lights at night and waking the other or going downstairs in the dark with its inherent dangers. The shower was in the miniscule room also housing the toilet and sink and had no screens to stop the water going all over the room and floor. This was dangerous as there was only one floor mat and we had to resort to using the towels to dry the floor after a shower. Also the exit down from the property was unlit on the stairs where it joined with the public footpath and the foliage from the bushes cut out ambient light which would otherwise have allowed us to see the way. A final point was that his English was not great ( he was not Greek) and when I asked whether we could drink the tap water he was unable to understand what I was asking. Sadly our experience of "where to stay in Halki" was not great. I take from this that in future I need to question the address where I'll be staying, and an updated telephone number and read reviews even after booking and as the season gets under way.

Unfortunately it was a disappointing experience I should value such negative reviews from other travellers with whom I totally agree The room I rented from the platform is probably the worst of the rest of the complex and nevertheless it was at the price of 247.5 euros!!! The room has a view... a wall The bed was not layered The bathroom has no window and sealed sink The paved courtyard has greens that come out between the tiles and have not cut them The room is not ventilated and smells closure And in the fridge no water after so hard walking and stairs you need to reach And all this in ....... EUR 247,5 And when I asked to talk to the officer they refused to contact me On the financial issue they told me “these days we are waiting to make money” for this reason has so much in relation to .. a week later!
