Grand Hotel Reykjavik

Good breakfast, kind and helpful staff, the hotel is next to a noisy busy main road, 40 minutes walk from the city center. Beds are too soft, windows are thin, so the noise from the road could be annoying.

Modern high-rise 4* hotel somewhat removed from the city centre (20-30 minutes walk) but on a main road with plenty of parking. The large atrium is attractive and the reception staff quite helpful. The bedroom was well appointed and pleasantly decorated with pictures of native Icelandic plants or birds, though the bed was rather too soft for us. A highlight was the breakfast, which had options for pretty well all tastes and of good quality. We also ate twice for dinner, and though the choice was limited, the dishes were tasty with some wines available in half-bottles, as well as a wide variety of other drinks. The full wine-list was expensive, as one would expect. Waiting staff in the brasserie were excellent, and we regretted that using a card to pay seemed to have no option for a tip- visitors seldom have Icelandic krona notes in their pocket. Of course Iceland is costly when compared to mainland Europe, but once was used to that, this hotal was pretty good value and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
