I've travelled and toured a lot all over the world so trust me when I say that the Thor Guesthouse is a great choice for staying in a central part of Reykjavik. I don't quite understand some of the awful reviews on trip advisor for this superb guesthouse. Trust me, I've stayed in many many hotels & guesthouses. The location is superb, very close to the Hallgrimskirkja iconic church and just off the main popular bars and shops strip of laugavegur. Walking distance to all things of interest. The Shared kitchen and Bathroom facilities are superb and the beds and rooms are very comfortable. Very warm and cosy everywhere, in fact I had to turn down the radiator in my room cos the heat was a bit too much, even though outside temperature was below zero. I had the best view ever from my room looking over towards the snowy mountains in the distance. I could have looked at that view all day! The place is kept lovely and clean and the cleaning staff who are around in the morning time are really nice and friendly. There is no reception as such, and usually no staff on site, you receive an email with door codes to access building and then access your door keys. This system works well, no issues. But the best part of this fantastic budget accommodation are the 2 outside balconies. Because of the outside balcony on the top floor I was able to witness the Northern lights display right over the city sky. They caught me off guard, the aurora forecast wasn't looking good for that night, then they appeared as I looked out of my room window getting ready for bed! I threw some warm clothes on and ran up to the outside balcony as fast as i could with my camera for a superb and unique view of Lady Aurora right over the city. I was very happy with my choice of accommodation for 2 nights but seeing the Aurora on the balcony really was the icing on the cake! A brilliant stay, I will be back again for sure! Don't expect a hotel, this is not a hotel, but it is simply a great choice for superb, clean, well located accommodation with amazing views. Not the fault of the guesthouse, but worth a quick mention that due to the layout of the building it can get a little noisy with families with young kids in the shared kitchen area on a morning at breakfast time so best bring some earplugs if you're not an early riser.

Great location, close to the biggest attractions of Reykjavik. The room was well equiopt, 4 beds, sofa, dining area. Well equipped kitchen also. The hotel has a public kitchen, equipped with all the facilities. Parking is right to the hotel. I recommend to watch the panorama of the city from the terrace - an unforgettable experience. And most important fantastic hosts, very obliging and kind. Greetings front Poland! We have o wonderful time on Reykjavik. Pozdrawiamy serdecznie Agata, Artur i Jasiek!

We booked this as a part business trip and part leisure trip. When we arrived after a long day on the Saturday night we were given room 2 which was nothing like the pictures you see its looking a little old and we noticed a door partition right next to the beds, but we thought as long as we get a good nights stay that will make up for it as we were booked onto a tour the next morning and had to be up for 0700, How wrong was! We experienced a lot of noise from what sounded like a lot of people so I got out of bed to see and found around 30 people all drinking and making a real noise I asked them to please would you mind keeping the noise down a little as we were trying to sleep but they chose to ignore us once again I got up and this time they seemed to be above us so I went upstairs and asked again but it fell on deaf ears, we were so tired after getting very little sleep and the next day the Sunday we again had to be up early and we so tired but this time the noise was from the room next to us where the partition is, which I am told is the duty managers room. I couldn't wait to get out of this guesthouse it spoil the whole trip the one thing you need is a good night sleep, I think it fair to also mention the old room with water seeping in wetting the floor next to the windows.I am so disappointed as we have asked both Hotel.com and the Guesthouse to explain or comeback to us about our complain Hotel.com said they couldn't help and the Guesthouse has just ignored us.
