Patra Bali Resort and Villas

This is a fabulous place to stay in Kuta. Lovely traditional Bali resort with its traditional esthetic preserved. Lots of wood, impressive mosaics and carvings, beautiful landscaping and details. Lots of beautiful photo-worthy spots. Wonderful huge swimming pool with swim-up bar, a second, more traditional pool, and lovely grounds. Great breakfast buffet. Excellent traditional dance show on Friday nights. The staff could not have been nicer. We paid a little extra for a villa room and had much more space than we needed. It was decadently large for a couple and would suit a family with children well. The Patra is right on the beach, but the Patra does not own the beach area -- that is public land, with a public walkway and rocky public beach. The walkway extends down the beach past several resorts, making it easy to take a stroll or run along the shore. Patra security keeps an eye on anyone trying to enter the resort from the public beach area. I've seen reviews unfairly complaining about the quality of the public beach there and faulting the Patra for not "cleaning" it up. The public beach is rocky and high tide reaches up to the public walkway. The ocean brings whatever it wants twice a day with each tide. This is not the Patra's fault. There is a lovely, sandy public beach called Jermain beach a short distance around the corner if you want to swim in the ocean. Yes, the Patra is right by the airport - so close you can see the runway, but the noise from the airplanes is surprisingly negilgible. If I turned to focus on the airplanes, I could hear them, but it was not overly loud did not interrupt the general tranquility of the resort. I would recommend this resort as romantic for couples and as fun for families. It really is a spacious traditional gem hidden in the sea of Kuta's jumble of slapped-together hotels near the airport.
