The Amala Boutique Retreat

We had a great time at the Amala! Everybody who works there contributes to a very pleasant stay. Friendly smiles and helpful people of the housekeeping, the restaurant staff, front desk, chauffeurs and wonderful massages. We have a daughter with an allergie for dairy, but they made pancakes specifically for her 🫶🏼 We made 2 day trips with one of the chauffeurs (Henra) and he had great suggestions and made sure we have many nice picture of the four of us to remember this trip. Thank you Amala-family for a great vacation!

We stayed at Amalia Hotel for two nights in a three-bedroom villa as the final stop of our three-week trip through Indonesia. During our journey, we experienced many different hotels and villas across the country, and unfortunately, this was by far the weakest in terms of value for money. On the positive side, the reception staff were friendly and check-in was smooth. The staff were always polite, although we found the service less warm and welcoming than what we had experienced elsewhere in Indonesia. The biggest disappointment was the accommodation itself. The villa was extremely dark, felt outdated, and was not as clean as we expected for a property in this price range. The dining area was pleasant, but overall the hotel has a very enclosed design with high walls surrounding most areas. We missed having a more open atmosphere and a connection to the outdoors—you only really see the sky when looking straight up. It simply wasn't an environment where we felt comfortable. I was travelling with my husband and our 16-year-old daughter, and neither my daughter nor I felt at ease. After the first night, we decided to leave and book another villa for our remaining night. We are much happier with our new accommodation. We had already booked the hotel at a discounted rate of approximately USD 650 for two nights. The regular price would have been close to USD 1,000, which, in our opinion, is far beyond what this property offers. At this price level, we expected a significantly higher standard. Breakfast was another disappointment. Apart from my husband's sandwich, which was good, the rest of the food was below expectations, and we barely ate anything. Although our booking was non-refundable, I politely approached the reception several times to ask whether, as a gesture of goodwill, they might consider a partial refund since we were leaving early because we genuinely did not feel comfortable. My first two requests received no response, and after repeated follow-up, the hotel declined any compensation. I understand their cancellation policy, but even a small goodwill gesture would have demonstrated that guest satisfaction matters. Unfortunately, based on our experience, I cannot recommend this hotel. While the staff were friendly, the overall quality simply does not justify the price. There are many better hotels and villas in Indonesia offering far superior comfort, atmosphere, and service for significantly less money.

The front desk, the driver, the person who brought me breakfast, all the staff I met were kind. Despite arriving early, he showed me around as soon as the room was ready. The rooms were also clean and I could take a relaxing time in the pool, read books and so on. I'm a little worried about insects, but they were well-prepared with mosquito repellent, spray and staff who came every day to kill them. It was so nice that I was looking forward to choosing breakfast. If you ever go to Bali again, I'd love to stay there again. My son said it was his favorite accommodation ever.
