Poppies Bali Cottage

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A wonderfully designed bungalow complex in the heart of Kuta. The entire complex is like a small oasis with lush, tropical jungle landscapes and lovingly designed pavilions. The bungalows are tastefully furnished both inside and out, exuding a special charm. I particularly enjoyed the partially open bathroom – a fantastic Bali experience. The entire staff is exceptionally friendly, attentive, and warm-hearted. Breakfast and other meals are served in the restaurant of the sister hotel across the street. There, the service is also excellent and the quality of the food is outstanding. The location is ideal: Only a few minutes' walk separate the resort from the beach as well as from the numerous bars, restaurants, and shopping options in the center of Kuta. If I travel to Kuta again, I would not hesitate to book this hotel again. A clear recommendation!

Not your normal glass and chrome high rise modern hotel but individual bungalows with thatched roofs from a different era set in lovely heavily planted landscaped gardens. Very pleasant. Internally the rooms are modern well equipped with a/c, tea and coffee facilities, fridge and a private external seating area. The large external bathroom is a great feature. In the wonderful heavily planted and colourful garden is a lovely free form winding pool, always tree shaded, for a restful relaxing time. Breakfast was exceptional. Freshly made, choice of juices then one of fruit salad, cornflakes, muesli, local rice pudding. Then the main, full English breakfast, bacon, eggs, sausage, mushrooms etc or eggs Benedict, omelette plain or with extras, banana pancake finishing with toast or croissant and obviously tea or coffee of multiple varieties. Either in the excellent restaurant or delivered to your room patio. Excellent with wonderful service.

A Timeless Kuta Institution – Warm Balinese Hospitality at Its Finest Over the past three decades, I have dined at Poppies Restaurant on around eight occasions, from the 1990s through to today, and one thing has never changed: the warm welcome, attentive service, beautiful Balinese atmosphere, and excellent value for money. Like many visitors, I would occasionally wander past the cottages, peek through the gardens, and think to myself, “One day I’ll stay here.” Well, after all these years, I finally did—and it exceeded every expectation. Poppies Cottages is one of those increasingly rare places that feels authentically Balinese. Nestled within lush tropical gardens, the traditional-style cottages are beautifully maintained and thoughtfully equipped with all the modern comforts needed for a relaxing stay. The property manages to strike that perfect balance between preserving Balinese character and providing contemporary convenience. With only around twenty cottages spread throughout the grounds, the atmosphere is intimate, peaceful, and personal. While there are plenty of large five-star resorts nearby, Poppies offers something many of them cannot: genuine charm, history, and a sense of place. In my view, that is worth far more than another high-rise hotel tower. What makes Poppies particularly remarkable is its location. Sitting right in the heart of bustling Kuta, it is only moments away from the shops, restaurants, and beach. Yet once you step through the gates, the noise and activity seem to disappear. It feels less like a hotel and more like a tranquil sanctuary hidden within a tropical garden. Having survived and thrived for more than six decades in one of Bali’s most competitive tourism destinations is no accident. Places like this endure because they consistently deliver what visitors come to Bali seeking: genuine hospitality, beautiful surroundings, and a connection to the island’s culture. A special mention must go to Putra and Kadek, who were wonderful throughout our stay, although every member of staff we encountered was courteous, professional, and genuinely welcoming. Their warmth reflects the spirit of Bali itself. If you are looking for an authentic Balinese experience rather than another generic resort, Poppies Cottages is a place that deserves to be experienced. After admiring it from afar for many years, I only wish I had stayed sooner. Terima kasih, Poppies. We will be back. 🌺🙏🏻
