Hotel Villa Julius

Full disclosure, we didn't actually stay in the hotel however we did stay in one of the many hotels on the island without a pool. We stumbled upon villa julius whilst looking for a quite place to watch the sunset. The very friendly staff allowed us to use the sun loungers to watch the sunset despite not being guests. We ordered a few beers and enjoyed our time so much we came back the next day for another magical sunset. This time the same staff invited us to use the pool with no expectations of buying anything. We did anyway and thoroughly enjoyed our time. In short, cant comment on the rooms but the services and drinks are brilliant. The cocktails are great and the pool is lovely! Well worth a visit at sunset

We stayed here because the pictures looked great online, it included breakfast again pictures looked amazing and they had self serve laundry. The building is tired and in desperate need of a makeover. The pool was grimy and green so we didn’t get in, there is no self service laundry as advertised. But what really took the cake (literally) was the manager. When we had our breakfast we were given an extremely basic menu to choose from, we ordered scrambled eggs on toast. The waiter brought it out and said that he needed to talk to us about breakfast as we are only allowed one egg each. The manager had decided to change the menu for the low season so what we ended up with was one scrambled egg on two pieces of cheap white bread. Already angry after that I decided to speak to the manager to ask why the breakfast is completely different to the website and she is walking into her office with a huge plate of food, noodles, tofu, tempeh, vegetables, fried eggs!!!! I ask why it is that we are getting a completely sub par breakfast and there is no laundry service as advertised and she just said the website has got it wrong and it’s low season. She was eating breakfast meant for guests!!! She did not want to give us any compensation and was not sorry at all. We eventually got free bike rental but because we really fought for it. We stayed another night as we had already paid and it was obvious we were getting no form of refund and the same thing happened again. From what I can see the manager just sits around eating all the guest food. There was one upside to this awful stay, the waiter Ian was lovely, very friendly and apologetic about the general state of the hotel and the managers lack of care. We do not recommend staying here there is so much better on the island for much cheaper. We really hope the owner reads this review so they can see how their business is being run. The manager has promised the website will be changed so as not to mislead anybody else.
