The Lady Gregory Hotel and Spa

An old and poorly maintained environment, there is no air conditioning, they make a wobbly fan available, rooms lacking welcome water and a minibar, bathrooms with faucets that need maintenance. Staff ill-equipped to interact with guests. Dinner in a meeting room on bare formica tables, cutlery on a napkin and nothing else. Place to avoid, tour operators keep offering it for their own convenience, AVOID ABSOLUTELY.

The Lady Gregory is a solid, no-frills three-star hotel, and if you go in with the right expectations, you won’t be disappointed. This is a get-what-you-pay-for kind of place. Nothing about it wowed us, but nothing let us down either, and for a family passing through Gort, it did the job ok (but not beautifully). The location worked for us. We chose it primarily for its proximity to family we were visiting in the area, and being based right in Gort made it easy to spend time with them while still being well positioned for day trips to Galway, the Burren, and the Cliffs of Moher. For that purpose, the location really delivered. The rooms are clean and comfortable enough. They’re basic and a little dated, but everything worked and we had no real complaints. It’s the kind of place where you sleep, regroup, and head back out rather than somewhere you’ll want to linger. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout. If you’re looking for character or a destination stay, this isn’t it. We were grateful to have a convenient, reasonably priced base when we needed one, though next time we’ll likely opt for somewhere nearby with a bit more character and style. But for a reliable, well-situated stop in this part of the west coast, the Lady Gregory does exactly what it needs to.

Poor breakfast, unidentifiable scrambled eggs, miserable rolls, hardly any selection. Beds and rooms are okay.
