Elodia Relais

After a long drive along the Adriatic seacoast and the inland mountains on hairpin curves with beautiful scenery, we came to our hotel in Camarda outside of L'Aquila. Snow could be seen on the surrounding mountains and along the road. The hotel seemed be be relatively new and located in beautiful surroundings. It had a highly recommended restaurant which was closed. There was no one around and the hotel seemed deserted. The only person at a reception desk did not have our reservation despite my producing a confirmation which seemed to cause quite a stir. They prepared our room while we waited over 1 hour. The room was very large, clean with a comfortable, spacious bed and ultra modern furnishings/decor. The bathroom had a large Jacuzzi and a shower with multiple nozzles surrounded by a transparent glass doors that could be closed. But all seemed very quiet. It seems that we were the only guests out of 10-15 rooms. We drove to L'Aquila 10 miles away in hopes of getting dinner. It was on a pretty drive along a river, but the town was still recovering from the severe earthquake several years ago. Streets were closed and restaurants were not at previous locations so we returned to Carmada to look for a restaurant. Returning to the hotel, there were no cars and only a night watchman. A very nice breakfast was served to us (alone) in a large dining room. Strange! So it is difficult to know how to rate this hotel. Maybe they were closed for renovations or for good. Under ordinary circumstances, it could rate very good.

I would like to share my experience and opinion.. I've visited Hotel Elodia Relais and was surprised with excellent accommodation, cuisine and overall approach. The dinner I experienced with my family was a best meal I've ever had
