Franca

As I was planning my week in Napoli, one of the first things i did was to seek accommodations. As I was traveling solo, I wasn't looking for fancy or lavish, but clean and comfortable. Franca and Enrico's place came recommended, so I checked it out. I found no recent reviews here (I would learn that this was because they shut-down during Covid, and were hesitant to reopen for fear of infection). They have two B&B units in their lovely and spotlessly-clean apartment. I stayed in the simpler, and less-costly of the two--it had two twin beds which could be placed together for a couple, or left separate. Plenty of closet space, and private bath that was just outside the room door. I had meant to peek at the other unit--I believe it's a suite, with en-suite bathroom and exquisite view of Napoli Bay and the Isle of Capri--same view as the salon (see below). The apartment is on the 7th floor of an elevator building, located on a quiet side lane--so virtually no traffic noise. Franca keeps it spotlessly-clean and neat. Enrico prepares a simple continental-style breakfast--baguette with butter and Franca's home-made jam, juice, coffee or tea, yoghurt, etc. It was enough to get me going in the morning. Sometimes, Enrico would join me and we chatted over breakfast. Their English is better than my Italian, to be sure. They are kind and courteous hosts. It's convenient to a city bus line, the Cumana (commuter rail station), and a couple of metro stations. Taxi ride from/to Naples Airport can be arranged with a trusted driver; cost was Eu27.50. The only disadvantages I can think of are logistical--they're a bit removed from the areas of touristic interest, and they're at the top of a steep access lane. I spent 3 nights at B&B Franca. As a first time solo traveler I was nervous about my first nights on this journey, but my stay here made me feel right at home in Naples. Enrico and Franca arranged for their friend, Massimo, to pick me up from the airport, and he took me right to the B&B where their friend, Tina, was waiting with my keys to check me in to their place. She made me espresso and made sure I felt comfortable until Enrico arrived. Enrico and Franca were very personable and had breakfast ready for me every morning- and they have an AMAZING view for that breakfast! Their place is minutes from the train station to get you to the historic center which is great for me as I learn public transit, and their friend Massimo took me anywhere I needed to go at anytime. He was AWESOME! One night, Enrico and Franca invited me to have a home cooked dinner with them which was great. The room was clean and cool (nice AC), the views on the terrace are incredible, and every part of the community who assisted me during my stay made me feel like family. Tina saw me in the streets of Naples and called out to me to give me a hug, Massimo took me to see an amazing look out spot overseeing all of Naples, and my hosts were pleasant and helpful. I enjoyed it so much I will be back in October. I highly recommend this place!

If you want a special place instead of a bland soulless hotel, this could be the place for you. We had stunning views of the Bay of Naples and Capri from our room, and Enrico and Franca are absolutely charming and helpful hosts. It was a perfect way to celebrate a major birthday. We had a 3 night stay and were able to take in the sublime Certosa di San Martino, the old centre of Naples and even a day trip to Capri.
