Hotel Villa Dei Misteri

Staying at Villa dei Misteri felt exactly like stepping into the Land of the Lotus Eaters—a place so incredibly tranquil that you could easily lose all track of time. I travelled here via train from Naples with my daughter to see Pompeii. The hotel delivered exactly what we needed, a compete escape from chaos. The absolute highlight was the pool, which was hands down the most peaceful pool I have ever experienced and the perfect sanctuary to escape the chaos of tourist crowds.. The hotel's location is excellent, right opposite Pompeii Villa die Misteri. It's a pleasant stroll into Pompeii town, and a short walk to the train station. Restaurants are just a step away. The service was wonderful, and a special thanks goes to Rosa at reception who was incredibly helpful throughout my stay. Al staff were friendly and I felt so welcomed here. Breakfast was lovely, featuring delicious croissants, jams, yogurt, and truly great Italian coffee. The hotel itself is dated but we liked the charm of the place; in my room, only one plug point was working. Had a great night's sleep. I could completely knock off here. Overall, if you want an unmatched, dreamy pool atmosphere right next to the ruins, this is a lovely choice as long as you don't mind basic room amenities. I did not want to leave and will hopefully return if we visit the area again.

We stayed at Hotel Villa dei Misteri for 3 nights while visiting Pompeii and Sorrento, booking 3 rooms as a group. The biggest positive is the location. It’s ideal for visiting the Pompeii ruins and close to the train station, which made getting around easy. However, it’s quite a walk into the town itself, and there’s very little around the hotel in the evenings. In hindsight, I would recommend staying in the town instead, where there’s much more atmosphere, restaurants, and things to do at night. Unfortunately, the hotel itself was a real let-down. It feels like a 1970s holiday hotel that hasn’t really been updated since. Even allowing for it being out of season (the pool was drained), the overall condition and feel were disappointing. The rooms were very dated, with tired furniture and old blankets that really need replacing. Basic amenities were missing - no fridge, no kettle, and no tea or coffee facilities, which you would normally expect. The biggest issue by far was the bathroom setup. The rooms are advertised as having a bath/shower, but in reality, it’s just a handheld shower head attached to the bath taps, with no wall bracket to mount it. This means you can’t actually stand and shower properly. Three days without a proper shower is not acceptable and definitely not what we paid for. The bath itself didn’t inspire confidence either, with marks that looked like cigarette burns, which didn’t help the overall impression of cleanliness. Heating was another issue - it didn’t work, and instead there were small electric heaters placed in the rooms, which felt like a temporary fix rather than a proper solution. Overall, while the location is convenient for the ruins, the condition of the hotel, lack of basic facilities, and misleading shower setup really let it down. It might suit someone looking for a very basic base, but for us it didn’t meet expectations. There are much better options - stay in the town instead.

hotel has not been updated since the 80’s. It’s extremely tired and dated only positive was it’s close to pompeii entrance. While waiting to leave we wanted to use the pool for 30mins but they attempted to charge us 100euros to do so after paying to stay for several nights !!
