If you ask for an extra blanket they will bring you a kind of scarf that does not cover more than half the width of the single bed. Shameful food in the hotel restaurant. Cold and decidedly little. Starting on a positive note, the restaurant area is lovely and breakfast is delicious. However, I struggle to comprehend how this qualifies as a four-star hotel. The reception service is quite poor, though the staff is polite. When I asked for a Christmas Eve dinner recommendation, they simply informed me that their restaurant was closed. Given the hotel’s remote location, exploring local restaurants might not always be a pleasant experience. If you’re visiting on a bank holiday, be prepared to buy sandwiches the day before, as the hotel won’t even be able to make you one. They did recommend a nearby restaurant, but it was also closed! It’s as if they’re completely unaware of what’s happening outside their own walls. There was a water boiler in our room (no coffee or tea bags though?!) that the reception claimed we weren’t allowed to have. We had to ask politely and reluctantly got a few bags. However, the dirty cups weren’t removed by the cleaners for two days, leaving them in our room - a punishment, perhaps? The junior suite was a decent size, but the double bed was uncomfortable and the duvet was thin as a sheet, like a summer duvet in the middle of winter. Bring a warm pyjamas. Another oddity was a shampoo bottle fixed in the wall, both in the shower and by the sink, with no hand soap or cream in sight. Apparently, this magical “shampoo” was for everything. Overall, it’s a decent three-star hotel, but don’t expect anything extraordinary.
