Stupidly, I booked this hotel without the standard meticulous research that normally goes into planning what should be a relaxing holiday. What a terrible, terrible, mistake.
Had I checked previous reviews, I would have found that under no circumstance should I have booked this dilapidated, unsafe pit.
We were here for four days, and on arrival, in all fairness, were greeted warmly by the staff. At this stage, we noticed how many people congregated around the reception area, but thought nothing more of it at the time.
The room itself was clean (surprisingly!), however the bathroom left a lot to be desired. The 'shower' was the exact opposite of what western civilisation is accustomed too. A poorly sprinkler spraying over EVERYTHING in the bathroom as there was no actual shower, more like a shower room, ensured that the room was constantly soaking, slippery and damp. You can only imagine the stench pouring from the mould which resided on most surface areas.
On day two we left the room just as the maid was entering to clean. After getting into our car we realised that we had left something in the room. I quickly nipped back upstairs to find a very 'confused' maid walking down the corridor with some of our belongings. After challenging her, she began flapping about and couldn't understand how she had come to be in possesion of OUR things. Belongings returned, we were sure to take all items of value with us on leaving the room.
Cut to the third evening and things went from bad to worse. On arrival back from an evening out, we were visited between the hours of 1am and 3am several times by a strange man we had never seen before, who persistently knocked on the door and feigned confusion every time we surprised him by answering it. In hindsight, I can only assume that this was to check whether or not we were conscious, as by morning as sure as mud is mud we awoke to all things of value, including over £500 worth of jewellery and several hundreds of pounds worth of technology stolen, with no sign of forced entry. Devastated was an understatement.
Terrified and concerned, we barricaded ourselves in the room. Then around 1am, the room telephone started ringing. I will let you guess as to why.
All comments were brought up with the dumbfounded receptionist at check out, and honestly, as two young girls travelling around northern Italy, we were genuinely just happy that nothing more serious happened to us whilst staying at this hotel.
CANNOT emphasise enough - PAY the extra 20 euros to stay elsewhere. Sleeping on the beach, or even in a sewer somewhere would be preferrable...and quite potentially a lot more safe.
