Grand Hotel Bolognese

Shameful. Dated structure .... but that would be the least. Cold, vater that draws water that comes out flooding the bathroom, gurgling from the shower drain. Cold shower water. Talking to residents in a bar they told us "but isn't that abandoned?"; open electrical boxes, hygiene let's ignore.... all at an exaggerated price

Reception already makes you understand that it is not a 4 star hotel... but a hole from which to escape... Hygiene, health and safety standards forgotten... Cockroaches have a party... smelly sheets are shared without washing with guests who have left and new arrivals... Sleepless night... TV and internet don't work... but that's the slightest problem... Serious thing and when children give up breakfast because they're afraid they'll find cockroaches... even in the food... and how blame them..It's the first time we've run away from a hotel...and a degradation for the municipality of Salsomaggiore

Guess it all started when we arrived and the lifts weren't working from the carpark requiring us to carry our suitcases. Upon entering this once lovely hotel you are confronted with a receptionist who clealy doesn't want to be there. We were a group of 7 requiring 3 rooms, 2 double & 1 triple. Our check in took a few moments however rooms were not ready (we had arrived at 1pm). We provided the receptionist with our passports only to have them returned to us at 7:30 that night after our registration has been completed. (We had enquired about them throughout the day). We then carried our luggage up 4 sets of stairs (lifts were still out), and encountered the odor of cleaning fluids. Now although a clean room is essential a hall way smelling of methylation spirit with one of the cleaning staff seeming to cough out a lung was a bit much. Our room, a triple was reasonably sized for 3 beds had only 2 towels & no spare pillows and 1 extra blanket. Family members who were travelling with us also spoke of inadequate items such towels & pillows. Hotel has wifi however don't expect to have it 24/7 as it's only really available in the reception area on very old, dirty & uncomfortable sofas. Security is clearly not a considation, as keys left on the reception desk stay there until you return to pick them up. Or anyone else for that matter! As reception is unattended over lunch so anyone can walk in and take any key they want! Don't except much for breakfast either. No fresh fruit and too many sweet cakes, which for a spa hotel you would expect some heathier options. Our room also had a bathroom light that didn't work, cupboard doors that don't open & tv that in two of our groups rooms didn't work. Being a spa hotel we decided to book a spa treatment. We asked reception to book it in & they would contact us to confirm, which proved to be difficult as we had no phone in the room. Upon enquiring they were unaware of however had insisted that they had contacted us! Spa treatment was dissapointing, atmosphere & rooms were noisy with radio aa music & staff gossiping outside the treatment room. Mud wrap was not heated and massage from an amateur. Manicure wasn't possible as they were unfamiliar with shellac nail technique. Although this place is in a great location, it's really all it has going for it. Unfortunately it is stuck in the 70's when no doubt it has it's hey day.
